I see a lot of the focus has been about music. Do you have something else that you're really good at well known for? I'm known for my great mixing skills. I think of DJ Taso and not what he gets paid to do events but the great things he can provide that clients will spend their money on.
I'm known for my rugged good looks, my intelligence and my sparkling personality. And mixing is made a little easier with 10 minute long songs ...

I provide my clients with exceptional quality in all aspects that would pertain to Weddings and Sweet 16's. To command top dollar, you can't just be good at some things and not others. My add ons would be useless if my mixing and song selection aren't good... my djing would be useless at weddings if I couldn't provide good MCing skills. All of this would be useless at weddings if I couldn't provide exceptional planning and the attention to detail needed to please the couples I work with. All of this would be worthless if I didn't have the proper marketing materials, presentation, responsiveness, etc. to showcase to clients and to get them to book (I know a number of dj's who are awesome but just don't know how to present what they offer and get it in front of people). My personal niche in terms fo events are 70% weddings, 20% sweet 16's and 10% prom and teen dances.... within the wedding's and sweet 16's its about a 50% split between greek events and everything else.

On another note... I know a number of dj's that specialize within the deep house, vocal house, and classic house genres of NJ that you often reference. They do plenty of weddings for couples that appreciate it... the big difference though is that these couples want that... but only a touch of it... the majority of the event is mainstream music. So while you know the house... you know none of the standard wedding music of toay.

On a side note... you go to every event to take photos... yet what do you even use these photos for. Since 2015 you've been saying you use them for promotional purposes... but where?

You make some great points and to answer your 2 questions I do DJ certain events. It's not just my partner doing them all himself or we do some together. As far as music goes for weddings since you mentioned that part. No I don't know a lot of the new stuff that brides want to hear
That's where he comes in at. To answer your other question I'm not into just posting any pictures anywhere. If it's an event we've done the pictures are ones that are nice classy pictures and not just pictures of any old event we do. I do have some pictures I think of the surprise 50th birthday celebration we did for my best friends sister-in-law. Those might work because the event was nice and people attending the event knew how to dress.

Honestly some events we've done clients and their guests weren't dressed to impress. We did the events because we felt comfortable with doing the event and the price was right.

I actually only asked one question... and that was about the pictures, and if you're there to take photos for promotional purposes, why are there no promotional materials?

You answered by saying you're not into posting any pictures anywhere... but you haven't posted ANY pictures ANYWHERE. Facebook doesn't count, because your profile is viewable by friends only. So if they're not your friend on there no one new will see it. You don't have a site... you don't have instagram... you don't do youtube. You mentioned photos from a 50th bday party from a year or so ago... if they're not up by now... what's the point of putting photos up from such an outdated event.

Like i said... I don't get the point of going there taking photos if you're not gonna do anything valuable with them. The funny thing is, you're talking about the people and how they're dressed... but if you go to my site for example, there are virtually no photos of people dancing or group photos or things of that sort. Just room shots and set up shots, along with staged photos of a couple or sweet 16 girl... from an ACTUAL photographer who I reach out to directly. So again I just kinda don't see the purpose of what you're trying to do.

Sorry you missed it. The idea is to get pictures worth posting. We don't have many that are worth posting. I wouldn't post just any pictures of events we've done just to post pictures. They need to be good enough to get us more business. We need more stuff that will get us more business. We don't have much that is attractive enough. That's the issue.

So for 5 years m you’ve been taking photos at events... but there hasn’t been one event where photos were worth posting. Either u need to find new events a DIFFERENT way, or you should just stop focusing on pictures. Chances are, if there’s ever a good enough event, there will probably be a photographer who you can network with and ask for photos from him. Chances are they’ll be better than what you take anyways. It’s how I got all my photos at first for promotional purposes.

Some but not many sir. Not every event we did was in high class places for classy people. Some were just about the money honestly. I've had a change of heart and I hope this wedding will be a start in the right direction.

Nothing disappoints like confirmation of unflattering suspicions:

I probably shouldn’t ask this question, but I will. What exactly is your definition of classy people, and a classy place? And, shouldn’t you work on having a place to host the pictures(website) before rushing to get the pictures?

You're full of s***. I have never put anybody down for where they did an event. Show me the evidence where I did that. I don't give a damn where you do events. That's on you for you to decide.

Over time I stopped doing events for certain clients. The reasons are as follows not that I have any reason to prove anything to you because you don't pay any bills for me. Certain clients have events that they don't want to spend decent money to a DJ and when you quote them a price they will give us a hard time with the price we quote. Also the places they want in some cases are cheap places that they don't spend much to have their event there. Also some of those clients will tell you it's ok to play anything meaning they want to hear the songs you play in the raw. Not clean versions but the versions with profanity in the songs. So we started weeding those types of clients out. Let them find a DJ who will do their event for them. End of rant but I needed to say what I did.

My bad, NOT!

I'm referring to your characterization of past clientele as a put down...AS WOULD ANYONE.

Show me the evidence where I did that.

You hypocrit.

..and I never asked you for your reasoning for your decisions because it wouldn't amount to anything worthwhile.

Over time I learned to stop doing certain events for certain people. The pay is lousy and they only lead you to the next cheapos looking for a DJ, putting us in questionable situations with questionable people. My life is worth more than any amount of money.

Taso please hear me out sir. I clearly get what you said and understand fully. Now in your case and this is a great compliment to you. You said before the people who book you are people who have their own businesses and can easily pay for your services most of them. So they can afford to pay a photographer to come to take pictures at their event. Quite a bit of people who booked us were just fortunate enough to rent a hall, have food (sometimes catered but mostly not), and find a DJ to do their event. They wouldn't a lot of them have money left over to book a photo. A few did have money to do that but not many.

Please remember you said you've done events where the venue cost for a client to have an event in a certain venue, the cost was $300 a plate and they paid for it themselves. Normally someone having an event in a VFW Hall don't have that kind of money to spend.

I remember when my best friends niece got married in Connecticut the place they picked they had a chocolate fountain and people came and served you your food. The steak I had was the best steak I ever ate. I know the couple spent a lot of money to have their reception in that venue. Now to be fair so others on here will understand, both of them had jobs paying at least 75k each. So they could easily afford such a venue.

So thanks for your great advice and I know what you're saying is its time to focus on getting better clients to book us to do an event for them.
