What do you think of hanging a sign on front of a facade?

I say a BIG NO! I saw a picture of a setup that had a sign on the facade that was advertising I guess the DJs name and contact info. I say if people want your info, they should come up to you and ask for your business card or other things you have so they know how to contact you. It looks tacky to me. I got the way to get my info besides a business card is a skin on both laptops with my info.

Then you tell us why you say NO

Then you tell us you do it too. Sure, a 'sign' is different than a skin, but to the customer, it's just another sign.

Hmmmmmm.

Free events , who cares if you advertise . People won't remember pink noise anyway.

It looks tacky to me and for certain events that are classy events such as a wedding in a nice venue doesn't look good. It to distracts away from the event itself.

Obviously you didn't actually read Post 2, please go back and read it.
I read that. What I'm talking about is something that stands out and is obvious to see from a distance. T o read what it says you have to get up close to see what it says.

So you're now saying that smaller signs are ok? Is there some specific size limit to what is not tacky? You're complaining about the very thing you do.
That's your opinion and you have that right. I was just asking a question. Nobody has to agree with me. I remember Taso said he didn't feel the facade I use now would look good at a wedding. That's his opinion. Mine is it will look good at a wedding. I do understand why he said that because his is outstanding! I'll bet my last dollar his cost more then mine.

No opinion was stated. I noticed that you were complaining about people advertising their name and contact info .. and that you also do this.
I wasn't complaining about what someone else does. I just expressed my feelings on it. Everybody is entitled to do what they want to do. If it works for you go for it!

A few weeks back I did a wedding where we hung a LED/Neon sign from my facade with the couple's initials on it. I thought it looked great:

Would I hang a sign advertising my business at a private event? Absolutely not. But signage can look good if it fits the purpose of the event...

That's a nice facade. I wonder does it have a shelf to put gear on like mine or do you need to use a table?

Like others have stated, there is a time and place (In my unprofessional opinion). At a wedding? Nope. The people paying know who you are. I have cards on hand if someone should ask for information.

I do play at some bars, for free, and I have a sign on the front of my ADJ booth that has my name on it. Is it Tacky? Maybe. but if one drunk at the bar takes a picture or selfie and posts it on social media and they remember who I am, it's worth it to me.

I think a lot of folks on here are past that point though... only playing at well paying jobs at little classier venues. There, I say keep the signs in your bag. If you're playing for free at a fun/relaxed event, why not.

Here is the skin I use on my new laptop to DJ with. The one i used to use as my main laptop I use for backup because the power cord doesn't stay in completely.
