What’s It To You If Pioneer Gets Out Of The DJ Business?

Pioneer has a considerable share of the DJ controller market, but Pioneer is not without their problems. I have NO direct experience with some of these issues, but it’s clear from the MANY things I’ve read, Rekordbox has performance issues, and their customer service is NOT what it should be considering Pioneer charges their customers PREMIUM prices. It’s not unprecedented for industry leaders to decline (or even fail) as a result of poor management/leadership decisions.

A quick check of the news only said that Pioneer was selling off their 15% share of Pioneer DJ. I didn’t really see any legitimate info that DJ Pioneer were getting out of the DJ business. That wouldn’t make any sense because they own so much of the market share. Now Pioneer and Pioneer DJ being separate makes business sense, likely the profitability issue is with PIoneer and they sold off 85% interest in DJ Pioneer to raise cash some time ago. But I haven’t researched the whole story of Pioneer and Pioneer DJ.

Bingo. And KKR likely had no interest in owning it long term. They are a private equity company.

If Pioneer Corp. sells their 15% share of Pioneer DJ, that DOES get them out of the DJ business. I agree with @Albatross that KKR & Co. Inc. is not likely interested in holding Pioneer DJ for the long term, so selling their 85% share would not be unexpected. The question is; to whom will the company sell, when, and what will they do with it?

The bottom line is both owners are looking to sell Pioneer DJ .... the reality will happen AFTER it's sold and either run as it is or combined with other industry pieces.
Everything is for sale but what info do you have to suggest it is actively being offered for sale in order to be combined, eliminated into other brands?

Pioneer started to get out of the DJ business when it sold 85% share of Pioneer DJ. Pioneer DJ is still fully in the DJ business likely profitable . Who will buy it? another investor or someone like InMusic like I mentioned in the beginning. They own Denon, Numark and a whole bunch of other companies

I don't .. I said it would be run as it is .. or .. combined into an existing organization. According to multiple sites, it looks as if it WILL be sold to someone. Large Corporations are like large ships - you can change who's steering, but an actual change in direction happens very slowly. However, mishaps do happen that can cause them to sink, i.e., the Titanic, Harley Davidson motorcycles built by AMF, and Nikon Mirror-less Cameras.

One could say that Panasonic (Technics) once OWNED the DJ market until they didn't ...

In many ways they still do. I'd bet they are still the dominant platform that DJs are playing ton today. But their product was too good, and never needed replacement.

I say we should all chip in and buy Technics and Pioneer DJ. :)

I was actually thinking about that... I'm not sure how active the DJ community at large is in investing. But to form a Limited Partnership structure where Pioneer gets bought by a big group of DJs would be really interesting.

Only problem would be with development of new products. If DJs had their hands in the mix since everyone wants something a little different, nothing new would ever come out.:laugh::laugh:

Would certainly be interesting, though.

Which is why I thought the Denon MC6000v2 was/is just about perfect .. compact, rack mountable, decent build, 4 channel mixer section, 2 mic inputs (a 3rd would have been perfect), booth and zone outputs, and adequate controls .. all the basics for a mobile guy that didn't focus on mixing. Not sure why the industry seems to have abandoned that segment.
I use mine to mix with and I love it!!!!!!!!! I love the fact that it's compact and easy to carry with the case it's in. So far no issues.
