Okay I decided to start working with mydmxgo device (I've been procrastinating due to all of the nightmares I've read and thought, "do I want to start the stomach ulcers yet?). I have a brand new Ipad (2018) to rule out the variable of an old ipad. So I have the MyDmxGo app for ipad. I've followed the manual to the letter in the order it says to do things. I power my dmx device via a plug in power adapter. I see a solid red power light on. The usb flashes green every once in awhile and the wifi light is solid green...That all seems great. When I boot up the app, it connects to the device automatically. Awesome. BUT then I notice the usb light stops flashing periodically and no longer flashes and the wifi green button starts flashing furiously and is not solid. The manual does not talk abut this and I don't know if this is working correctly or not. HOWEVER, when I go to add fixtures and download a profile it says it failed due to "SSL storage not reachable and to check that your network has an internet connection". Why would this not have internet connection? I thought the interface created a wifi connection? The other confusing thing was that I thought I read somewhere that I had to have my ipad connected to my home wifi when I download fixture profiles, not the dmxgo device. However, when I'm in the app it refuses to connect to my home wifi at all and only seems to be able to connect to the mydmxgo interface. So not sure what internet connection I'm supposed to be using to download profiles. In the manual it clearly shows in the pics that they are connected to the dmxgo interface when downloading fixtures. If so, why would I get this error message, then? Then on top of all of this, I remember there was discussion about the Mydmxgo Ipad app being faulty and to use the LightRider app. If so, could this be my issue and where is the LightRider app. I don't see that in the App Store. Also, I've also read about a Manager app I'm supposed to download but I don't understand what that is supposed to do. Anyone feel like taking on all those questions? LOL

The myDMX Go interface box has a wifi server that can connect with either your tablet or to a wifi router. Your tablet can login either to the myDMX Go box or to your router, but not both at the same time. Your wifi router can connect your tablet to the internet, but the myDMX Go box itself has no internet access. In order to download fixtures in Profile Builder, you need to connect your tablet to the LightRider server on the internet, which requires you to login to your wifi router. But in order to run the myDMX GO/Light Rider app, you need to connect your tablet to the interface box, which cannot provide internet access. Hence the dilemma.

The way I resolved this mess was to use Hardware Manager to set up the myDMX GO interface box to work in "Dual Mode", and configured it to login automatically to my wifi router. That allows me to login my tablet to my wifi router, which provides access to both the internet and the myDMX GO box at the same time. The advantage of Dual Mode is that I can instead login my tablet directly to the myDMX GO interface box, in situations where I don't have my internet router or don't need internet access. To make this work flexibly, you need to configure your tablet to NOT automatically connect to either your wifi router or the myDMX GO box. You can then manually login your tablet to any wifi server you prefer. But if you always have access to your wifi router, you can set up your tablet to login to it automatically, and switch logins only as need be.

okay, cool. This is starting to make sense. So I went on to Lightrider.com and downloaded the Hardware Manager onto my computer. I connected my dmxgo box via usb to my computer. I pulled up the Hardware Manager app and it said no device was connected. I tried hitting Refresh Devices List. Nothing. I tried Add Internet Device and this pop up window came up which I have no idea what I'm supposed to get the info to input here. Is this supposed to be my home router info? Not entirely sure where to look for this.

Hardware Manager connects to the MyDMX GO box through a USB cable. The box should show up immediately on the left side of the Hardware Manager dialog box. If not, you may need an OTG USB cable.

I'm just using the usb cable that came with the MDG. On the MDG box it has a connector port that says usb and the other end of this cord is a usb connector I have input into my computer. I've tried closing the Hardware Manager and re-opening with the MDG already plugged in (thinking it'd see it). I've tried having the Hardware Manager already open and then plugging the MDG into the usb port to see if it would show up. Nothing.

I did sort of figure out something by accident on my ipad tablet...I connected it to my home network. I then proceeded to not click on "interface" (I was doing that before when I found out it would do nothing and I assumed under "interface" it would show my home network. When it didn't I thought there was something wrong. This time I just proceeded to "Fixtures" knowing my ipad was connected to my home network and I was able to download the fixture profiles. However, when I closed down the app (not just minimized it) and re-booted it, all the fixtures were gone except the first one I input. Huh???? Since I didn't see a "save" button on the app I assumed it was saving. I proceeded to re-input my fixtures, went to the settings and clicked on "lock fixtures screen". I tested it by closing down the app as before and re-boot it. All of my fixtures were there. So not sure what's going on and what is a fluke....Hell, the whole freakin product is flukey! :-/

(side note: When it comes right down to it, this is insane to have to do all this bs just to get up and running with a product. This is my first purchase with ADJ and I gotta say....I am not even remotely impressed with this company or this product. I'm willing to embrace a learning curve but you read here and on the forums, there are nightmares everywhere. It seems virtually impossible to tell if it's a cable problem, a firmware problem, a hardware problem, an ipad issue, an android issue, a distance between ipad and box issue, a dongle disaster, a cluttered wifi network nemesis....The list is endless. Good Lord.

There is some good info in here (BTW, LightRider info is the same as myDMX Go) ..

OTG - On the Go, it's a USB cable that connects peripheral devices to tablets and computers. The cable that came with the myDMX GO box should definitely work.

When downloding profiles in Profile Builder, make sure you get the save dialog before exiting the app. Likewise with the myDMX GO app, make sure to go back to Live mode after setting up things in Fixture mode, before exiting the app.

ADJ is not the developer of myDMX GO/Light Rider, they're just licensing and rebranding it. Nicolaudie is the ultimate source of our collective frustration.

So are we saying that I have to go through this Hardware Manager to get to the Profile Builder and be able to download any fixture profiles? It appeared that when I was connected to my home network on my ipad that I was able to download the profiles of my chauvet wash lights without having to do anything with this Hardware Manager. In the app, my fixtures have green buttons next to them and they imported the channel options I could choose from and it automatically set my begin and end addresses based on the amount of channels I opted for. SO...all of that to say, am I good??? Is there some sort of firmware/hardware update that I need to do to the box itself before I can start using this thing with the fixtures I downloaded onto my tablet? (Sorry for being such a novice here but I'm so used to taking something out of a box and it is pretty much plug and play. So this whole process is throwing me way off).

Profile Builder and Hardware Manager are 2 different tools ... don't need Hardware Manager to download profiles .. should happen automatically if you are signed into your Light Cloud account.

Hardware Manager is used to update the firmware in the box and to change the WiFi settings.

Did u return it? or are u planning to give it another shot?

I don't give up easily (I might b-tch, moan and complain during my struggle...haaa... :-/ but I do usually tough it out). It does look like it has a lot of potential and I do hope it all works out. Gotta figure out how to make the Hardware Manager see the mydmx go box so I can update the wi-fi settings. Thanks to everyone who's thrown in some input to help me troubleshoot so far!

I dearly love the IDEA of this app but the guys designing this need to re-think the wifi thing and fast. I'm continuing to have problems and had to reboot a couple of times, just this past week. I wish there was a dongle that could be used with this app that would hardwire-connect to the app. I'd love it even better if they had a windows version of the app and just let me usb to the dongle. I'm going to stay on the train for now but this won't continue for long until I go find something else.
