I am not familiar with base panel installations. Our environments are quite different. We barely see rain or frost and we get earthquakes. Perhaps that is why I don't seem them used here. They seem to have a texture to them that creates a gap underneath. I can't tell how big that gap is. I suspect, the sand will fill that gap. The bigger the gap, the more sand it will take. I just had 400+ sq-ft installed. It took a few bags but I didn't count.

Got the rest of the pavers installed and 2 layers of sand, with vibratory compactor run in between. The pavers are locking down tight and seem to be smoothing out. I'm going to work a few more bags into the cracks, then apply water to seal. BTW, the plate compactor did break 2 pavers but no biggie. I love it when a plan comes together.

It is really looking good. I wonder if the breakages are a function of the paver size versus the compactor size. My pavers were in 5 different sizes but the largest was only 12x12. In other words each paver was much smaller than the compactor plate. Your pavers might be larger than the compactor. Perhaps that is the factor at play here. Oh well, 2 broken pavers doesn't break the bank.

I'm using 12X12 pavers. I'm not worried about 2. Now if it had been 20............well, it's not. You were right about the polymeric sand. I've put out 6, 35lb bags and compacted a couple of times and the pavers have locked in nicely. I have 4 more bags and hoping to have the rest put out today, then add water. Then, just fill in on the sides and put the benches back in place.

I actually have some concrete on the sides to secure the edges. It is not a very thick layer but it adds piece of mind. It just goes up about 3/4" from the bottom of the pavers. That way you put dirt over it and no-one sees it.

Well then, maybe invest in (or rent) some goats.

Ha ha. I got the mower in yesterday afternoon and, of course, had to go cut with it. All I can say is holy freakin cow! That thing is going to seriously cut down on mowing time. I just hope it holds up mechanically.

Rick, if you need a doctor to lower you blood pressure.. you are in trouble...

The pavers worked out beautifully and I have the walkway being done today. It's about 100 yards long between venue and ceremony site (by the pond). I also am working feverishly to get the bridal cabin finished before 5/21 (next wedding). Here's the flooring we started putting down yesterday. Note, this isn't the cabin, it's from the Sam's Club website. 1651676510372.png

I just hope YOU hold up mechanically....:pillyes:

Bouncing around on a mower does take a toll on an old body but I gotta tell you, that floating seat platform is da bomb. I have some pretty rough ground to mow and that mower is smooth as silk.

Hope you have good relations with your neighbors !

I do. The only one to worry about is across the road and I'm on good terms with them. The house next to the venue is owned by my sister. I'm careful to keep the noise down and the doors closed. Everybody is very positive, which I'm thankful for.

I had the walkway to the ceremony site paved yesterday. The walkway is asphalt and the ceremony aisle is cement pavers. I'm thinking of installing some kind of wedding sign at the top that says something like "The Forever Walk". Is that idea goofy? BTW, I still have to do landscaping along the walkway.

Not a fan of "forever walk"...'cause that IS a long walk. Maybe something with happiness, love, or blessed in the title?

You could have some fun with the sign idea. You could make replaceable mini "billboards" along the walk. Perhaps just using 8.5"x11" picture frames. The couples could customize these to their desires but you could offer some pre-made ones to choose from and upcharge for custom ones that you make.

Now that is a GREAT idea!!!:hello2:

I like it. Just trying to think of a way to turn a long walk into an asset (with something creative). As I was taking pics this morning and walking towards the ceremony site the thought hit me, "Man, this is a great opportunity for reflection or perhaps a nice conversation with dad." I think this can be turned into a positive. Thanks for input fellas.
