I just found out VDJ 2021 was released, it allows you to separate the vocals, instrumental and the beat. I didn’t get a chance to dig into it yet but I heard it requires a powerful processor. Likely they might be trying to take advantage of the power of the Intel processors with AI. I will be 2 week until I get a chance to try it out but VDJ usually doesn’t a pretty good job with their updates.

I usually hate the phrase "game-changing", as it's overused and not usually accurate.

This feature, however, is game-changing. I updated last night and it's amazing how well it's able to extract things and remove others in realtime without making everything sound like a garbled mess. Sure, there are some artifacts you'll hear that aren't always ideal, but for the upgrade price of free, it's an awesome tool to have (even if you're only using it to let the crowd sing "Ohhhhhhhhhh we're half-way there!" to Bon Jovi's instruments without any vocal help from Jon).

Yeah a game changer. I already use VDJ tracking songs, this adds a whole new level and eliminates the need to find instrumental and a cappella tracks. Now, I really needed this 30 years ago as I was doing a ton fashion shows and we were always hunting around for instrumentals. Years ago believe VDJ had a feature to remove vocals but it didn’t work well. Now is the time you’ll need that extra processing power. I didn’t read what the requirements were but I saw it works on music videos too

It's enough to make me want to jump, though I wish the purchase price was $200 instead of $300 .. I already own full versions of PCDJ, Traktor and Serato (along with the LE version of VDJ). VDJ seems to tick all the boxes and this kind of ads the cherry on top .. might be my summer purchase.

It's also causing a buzz on the Serato Forum. My exact Post there -

"Frequently, excellent features such as this are dismissed SIMPLY BECAUSE they are VDJ'ish. This shall be interesting!"

I never miss an opportunity to poke the SSL Groupies in the eye!

Realistically, this is all based on an algorithm called Spleeter developed by Deezer. Since it's Open Source, I suspect it will find it's way into most everything.
Algorithum's DJay Pro AI for iOS also just incorporated it -

You would need to add the lyric information for true Karaoke.
I mostly do karaoke with friends at one of our homes. We sometimes can't find a karaoke version for a song but we can find a YouTube video of the original song with the lyrics superimposed. I was thinking of using the feature in this scenario, not professionally.

The program seems to be much larger than the previous update and VDJ did recommend that I update the drivers for my video card, which I haven’t done yet. The CPU Meter hardly moves on my main laptop but it has an I7 H processor so you can’t really tell between the new/old. I am going to put it on my older I7 later and that will give a better indication as VDJ uses more resources on that machine.

This will cover the songs which aren’t available on karaoke where they know all the words. It happens fairly often enough. I’ve also seen Many that already have the words to the songs on their phone and review them beforehand. I paid around $200 for Numark Cue about 20 years ago, then only $25:to convert to VDJ. I think I got my money's worth.

Can you run both the old and new versions on the same computer? My laptop is a late model i5 that is faster than any of my older i7s but I don't want to commit before testing.
I know with previous versions you were able to have both the older version and new version on a computer

Sawdust, installing will write over version 8. If you still have older versions on your PC they won't be overwritten. Between this new feature and the recording feature I'm putting together a mashup on an older imac.

I'm just wondering if the quality would be better with more processing power. I'm getting a doubling effect on vocals if I totally eliminate the music. Works better if the music isn't totally eliminated.

Make sure you have the "newest" new release -
"Atomix have just added the ability to pre-analyse tracks and save the stems so loading time is reduced.

People without the beefy NVidia GTX graphics cards Atomix recommend were complaining about how long it took to analyse when the track loaded (which also pushes the CPU as it can't use the GPU). Now user can "rip" the stems in advance, which get saved to a single VDJ specific file (not NI format) for each track.

Also worth mentioning that Atomix had added this in the 64 bit version of VDJ only. Apparently the 32 bit version isn't up to the job. This means that the requirement is Windows 10 64 bit only on PC. Mac users are 64 bit anyway."

I hope most people converted to 64 bit 10 years ago, but I realize some DJs are well behind the curve .. :)

I think everything I own except my Vista machine and a pair of XP's is 64 bit.

I haven't been using VDJ at all though I have what was originally sold as a "perpetual license." I think my last install is still VDJ 7.0 so I'll have to check out what the current terms are to find out what I can do.

Even at $300 - you can find value given that defunct brands like OtsAv still try to charge more than that for software that doesn't even function as advertised. If a brand wants to charge ANYTHING for their product they should at least be as capable as the present open source alternatives, and VDJs consistent inclusion of these open source elements and cross app access is a sign that they're far more in touch with the reality of mobiles and prosumers.

VDJ is stating on their download page, that 2021 is for Windows 10 64 bit machines.

A head scratcher for me as I have a Win 7 Pro 64 bit machine with an SSD, 24gd ram, and an 8 core running at 4.0ghz native which runs stronger than my Win 10 Pro ASUS 64 bit gaming laptop (I-7 at 2.8ghz, 16gb ram, SSD)
