UGH I have to buy a new TV today.

I had this mini Zebra set for since I'm a kid. It's still buried in one of my drawers. That was pretty cool to whip out but to write with for big hands. I blame my father he was big into Day Timers (appointment books and accessories sold by catalog). He was always ordering fancy pens and monogrammed appointment books.

I ordered a 'tactical pen' off Amazon. I wasn't sure what it was until I got it. One tip was a glass breaker (I'm guessing if you're trapped in sinking car - Pen to the rescue!). There's a whole category of 'tactical pens'. It makes zero sense to me I backed out that niche real quick.

Jeff you said a great thing and you're right. Some companies have been bought out by another company but keep the trade name. Gibson bought out Cerwin Vega and they kept the name. The quality certainly is not the same.

Bottom line they make things the way they used to. A TV used to last you 20 years or more. Don't expect that now. The companies have to keep making money or they will be out of business. So they don't make things to last that long anymore. Unless you're talking about for example a Rose Royce that last I heard starting price is over $110,000.

People want things cheap...Companies build cheap things...Buy cheap get cheap

Did you get the undercoating?

They install that TruCoat at the factory. There's nothing we can do about that.

I bought a Cross ball point pen last week. It just came today. It’s just a simple satin black and gold pen. I lost one somehow. Don’t know how because I don’t go anywhere, but I lost it nevertheless. I think I lose one every 5-6 years. I ALWAYS carry a pen in my shirt pocket, so naturally I have a spare, but this one now becomes my new spare. I thought this was important to share. I don’t know why.😊

True story: My father-in-law was an account for the Cross pen company for almost 40 years. On his 25th anniversary with the company, they gave him... wait for it... an engraved Cross pen.

They spelled his name wrong on the pen. 😆 😆 😆

A nice Cross pen costs around $25. I’ve kept some of my pens for as many as 10 years, so the cost is really quite small. Refills are readily available and inexpensive. If I lost pens all the time, I’d buy a pack of Bic pens or something like that. But there’s nothing more aggravating than needing to sign a receipt, and someone hands you a pen that doesn’t write. I just whip my pen out and it ALWAYS writes!😂
I have a slew of Cross, Parker and Waterman pens (a side benefit of being in a sales organization forever), but the ones I use most, and I buy them by the dozen, is the Pentel EnerGel .7mm RTX pens .. smoothest writing pens I've ever owned. I buy blue, but they come in a host of colors ..

You didnt by a 32 inch because of space. You bought it because of price and because you couldn't find a 40 inch in stores.
Wrong a hole! I had the money to buy a bigger size TV for more money. Like I said I don't have the space for a 40 inch TV. If I was buying based on price I would have gotten the 32 inch TCL TV they are selling for $98 plus tax. I decided that was too cheap for a brand new TV. I have said this before. Sometimes you think you're saving money and you find out you're really not because you should have bought the other item costing a little more and be satisfied instead of quickly getting rid of what you bought for something else.

What difference does it make if you're adding the extended warranty? Should've gone with the TCL.

Move some of that big $ss equipment and mix would have space for the 40" monitor

Now Itigger you're missing the point.
How is it possible that everyone here is always missing the point.

My point is things are not being made today to last as long as when things were made say 25-30 years ago. A lot of things you bought back then were made in the USA and that gave people in this country working. That's where people working in those factories took pride in the products they made. Now things are being made overseas because the labor is much cheaper with workers in those other countries.
Some things are built to last longer - than the way they were 25-30 years ago. A vehicle can easily last 25-30 years with maintenance and care. 25 years ago - was 1995.

Some of it is slave labor.
Did you go out of your way to buy something American made? If not, then you're potentially supporting some of these locations.

Again like I said it's about keeping companies in business. If they make a TV for example to last for 30 years they won't be making money or enough money to stay in business. Not saying something's are not being made with high quality. It's just that in a lot of cases today it's not the same like it was 30 years ago or more. The problem is and I got to say this, the world is destroying itself because of how greedy the people in the world have become. Not saying there's something wrong with having wealth. That's nice. Just keep it in its proper place.
30 years ago, alot of junk was made too. You continue talking about greed - yet it was you that fought with someone over $50 to perform .. simply because you thought he had more money and that you were entitled to it. Sounds like greed to me. As relates to the TV, unless you stepped up to buy something of higher quality and American made, then why are you posting about foreign made low quality stuff?

I'm not addicted to having the latest thing that comes out.
No, you just NEED TO HAVE IT, even when you don't have money to pay for it!
Sadly and detrimentally, that is a stupid, selfish choice that far too many self consumed individuals in this I-culture refuse to acknowledge.

I'm a pen guy myself. Parker is my pen of choice with a couple of Cross pens mixed in. A smooth writing pen thats relatively cheap to refill.

Not a monitor. I have a TV and it's connected up and running. Just got to figure out how to use my DVD player with the TV. I don't have gear in the house other than my setup to do Facebook live.

A tv - is a monitor.
True, but a monitor is not a TV. (at least in the traditional sense) These days so few people watch over-the-air broadcasts that many TV sets eliminate the tuner altogether. This used to be what defined a TV vs monitor. "Smart" TVs that allow one to connect to wifi and install and run apps are eliminating the need for tuners. These days the TV vs monitor distinction is more dependent on whether or not the screen has built-in speakers. However, the advent of ultra-thin (<0.25") and roll-up screens that can't fit internal speakers is even blurring that distinction.

I monitored workers a few days. I used pens sometimes during those times. Often while watching an 8-inch TV. I will accept no less!

I still have one sort of like this at my mothers. I'm willing to sell it to you but I think it's a 4 inch screen ;)
