Well let me say this first. I know some people who are stuck on having a HD TV with super high resolution. For me as long as I could see the picture and the TV worked, no problem for me. I'm not addicted to having the latest thing that comes out. For example some will buy the latest controller because it's the latest thing that has come out. I got the Denon DN MC MK2 controller and I LOVE it! I don't see the need to get the next latest controller that comes out because the one I have works like a charm. Now when it stops working I will get another one.

I'm a fan of comedy movies and shows. Especially old school shows like Mary Tyler Moore Show. Now one thing I didn't anticipate how difficult it would be to get a TV at a store now. Almost all the stores have 32 inch TVs and under. I want a TV that's at least 40 inches. I will try again early this morning. My plan is leaving the house around 6am.
Try BJ's. I see 40s and higher in there all of the time. Well worth the membership.

Oh, I know how this works, but I figured anybody who's making payments on their free tablet from AT&T probably got suckered into the HD cable package even though they're watching on a 15-year old CRT TV.
I went with basic cable TV and a DVR to record shows. That's it. We have 2 cable boxes. Mine is the one that has a built in DVR. I haven't watched HBO or Showtime in over 10 years. They don't get my attention. I picked up today a Philips 32 inch TV today from Walmart for exactly $145.01. That includes a 2 year warranty for $8. They had a TCL TV for $98 plus tax. I decided that's just too cheap for a new TV and went with the one that cost a little more and a true name brand. I will give my reviews on it when I get it setup. It has Roku TV. Big deal.

Although the name Phillips still exists it's not like the old days they are leasing the name to a Japanese company who makes the TV's now same with most secondary brands. TCL is made in the same factory as RCA in China. All in all unless you go high end like Sony or Samsung expect 2 or 3 years of heavy use before you're buing another one

So mixy who well be setting up your New TV for you??

Jeff you said a great thing and you're right. Some companies have been bought out by another company but keep the trade name. Gibson bought out Cerwin Vega and they kept the name. The quality certainly is not the same.

Bottom line they make things the way they used to. A TV used to last you 20 years or more. Don't expect that now. The companies have to keep making money or they will be out of business. So they don't make things to last that long anymore. Unless you're talking about for example a Rose Royce that last I heard starting price is over $110,000.

You think a Rolls Royce 'lasts' .. but other cars do not?

:scratchhead::salute:😂
My favorite boss had a car that lasted him for 13 years. The reason he got rid of it is because the back was rusted out and to fix it the cost back then was 3k. He decided to not get it fixed because it was old and his thinking was what if the engine or transmission was to go. He bought a brand new car and the salesman told him to not expect this new car to last as long as that one. He said after 7 years it will be time to get another vehicle.

I have a vehicle that is 14 years old, no rust. I have another that is 8 - also no rust. While 3k seems like alot, 20k+ is alot more (at least 6x more).

Engines and transmissions can (and do) go in newer vehicles also.

If a salesman said that to me, I'd walk right out the door - he obviously doesn't want business.

If you use the salesman's logic, every 7 years, you need to spend 20/30k .. vs maintaining a vehicle so it lasts. Which do you think is more cost effective? ;)

Just buy a Rolls and be done with it - because you're more than halfway there after 8 years. :D

Wait in one post you said you weren't going to settle for anything less then a 40 int TV and then you buy a 32 inch because you dont know how to order online. Your life should really be a sitcom.

I will be kind here even though I probably shouldn't! No I decided on a 32 inch TV because I realized I don't have the room for a larger TV. Now Itigger you're missing the point. My point is things are not being made today to last as long as when things were made say 25-30 years ago. A lot of things you bought back then were made in the USA and that gave people in this country working. That's where people working in those factories took pride in the products they made. Now things are being made overseas because the labor is much cheaper with workers in those other countries. Some of it is slave labor.

Again like I said it's about keeping companies in business. If they make a TV for example to last for 30 years they won't be making money or enough money to stay in business. Not saying something's are not being made with high quality. It's just that in a lot of cases today it's not the same like it was 30 years ago or more. The problem is and I got to say this, the world is destroying itself because of how greedy the people in the world have become. Not saying there's something wrong with having wealth. That's nice. Just keep it in its proper place.

I bought a Cross ball point pen last week. It just came today. It’s just a simple satin black and gold pen. I lost one somehow. Don’t know how because I don’t go anywhere, but I lost it nevertheless. I think I lose one every 5-6 years. I ALWAYS carry a pen in my shirt pocket, so naturally I have a spare, but this one now becomes my new spare. I thought this was important to share. I don’t know why.😊

Thanks for sharing. :D I'm a "pen guy" too. I don't get much in the way of expensive pens but have a few of the Fisher Space Pens. They're real convenient to throw in your pocket and forget about. It also doesn't hurt that they write smooth too. Since the ink reservoir is pressurized it doesn't matter how upside down it was in your pocket. I keep a set of Zebra F-701s on my desk and nightstand.

A nice Cross pen costs around $25. I’ve kept some of my pens for as many as 10 years, so the cost is really quite small. Refills are readily available and inexpensive. If I lost pens all the time, I’d buy a pack of Bic pens or something like that. But there’s nothing more aggravating than needing to sign a receipt, and someone hands you a pen that doesn’t write. I just whip my pen out and it ALWAYS writes!😂
