My friend just built a tiki bar in her backyard and wants to throw a tiki party now. I knew she was throwing a party for a few weeks but didn't know it had a tiki theme. She asked me if I had a tiki play list. I don't... yet. I looked on Spotify and most Tiki playlists seem to be a mix of surf music, Jimmy Buffet, reggae or Polynesian tribal music. None of the lists seem particularly good. I get the impression that no one really knows what a tiki party should be. And maybe that is fine. I can easily build an upbeat playlist sprinkled with numerous songs about beaches. Was just wondering if anyone had a more successful formula for a tiki party.

Note: I am not DJing this party. I am just providing a playlist. I don't expect dancing but I don't know how drunk people will get. The age group for the crowd is late 50s to late 60s.

It might be cool to play Steel Pan Music early on while everyone is grabbing drinks for "cocktail hour". People will think it is cool because how often do people listen to Steel Pan music? Likely only once or twice in their life before, or maybe never before.

I would think some Bob Marley songs would be in order for this type of party. Maybe some Beach Boys songs

Somewhere I have a cd of steel pan covers of modern songs. Well modern being 15 years ago probably

Back in the late '80s I went to a music festival and found a cool steel drum band. They were only selling cassettes but I bought one. They had a version of Vivaldi's Spring that I later used at two different weddings. It was pretty cool.
