I am making this thread because I had a short meeting with this guy in a club on Monday night. It wasn't that long. My friend who was DJing at the club that night mentioned me to this guy. He did work for this guy and there were issues that came up. I don't want to get into all of that.
He's planning on an event at the Elks lodge in the summer. Let me get to what I need to talk about. He is looking to do this event at this club we were in called Level 10. Very nice place and being run just the way I like it. They don't allow the drama for your mama's in. Only mature adults. No rap music or anything close to that.
So ok the guy wants to use the room in the basement to do an event in and me be the DJ. The event is to be 5 hours if he does it. The owner wants $500 for someone to use that room for an event. I know why he wants that much for that small room. To keep the rift raft out. The room can hold about 70 people if that depending on how the room is setup. There's no real dance floor.
Now the thing is Ithe guy says he would pay me $300 to do the event. I know to have a signed contract with him because of issues my friend has had in the past with this guy. I was told to just do the job and worry about me getting paid. Now the cost so far for him renting the room and paying me makes it up to $800. I'm just concerned on how he's going to make enough money to have this event and make sure I get paid. My friend said just do the job so I get more exposure and people who work in the club can get to hear me play. That's great. My thinking tells me that just because you have a signed contract doesn't mean you will get paid all your money. I don't want to have to get paid part of the money then have to wait to get the rest. I've also never taken someone to court to get paid. Am I over reacting about this and just do the job or what? Any suggestions please and no sly comments like drama again please.
