There's a upcoming show on June 17th that I will be the DJ playing at the event opening up for the performers who will be the entertainment at the show. When they finish performing I will wind the show up.

The show had to be moved from where it was supposed to be because the venue wasn't registered with the city of Orange NJ. So the police came in and shut it down while they had a lady called Valerie Adam's with her band working that night.

So the promoter moved the show to the Elks Lodge in Bloomfield NJ on Bloomfield Avenue.

The featured artist for the show is Harold Melvins Blue Notes, Intruders and Hunter Hayes. The doors open at 8PM and the show starts at 9. So I get to open up the show and close the show after they finish performing.

The price for seniors is $35 and others it's $55. That's what the promoter told me. No this is not a freebie. I will be getting paid for doing the event. I rarely get excited about doing an event. This one is special. This event is taylor made for me. This show will be a breeze for me to be the DJ playing at this show.

The venue is very small and it's going to be tight with 125 people attending the show, the performers doing the show and me playing at the show. I already know I will be a cramped area. The good news for this one is all I have to use is my controller and laptop. Just have to hook into the system that will be there and that's it. No using my regular facade that I love. Just have to use a table that the venue will have for me.

Now I know already that it's going to be difficult with such a setup in such a small venue. My partner asked if I feel the way I do then why am I agreeing to do the event. That's simple. It's a paying job. My things do my job, get paid and when it's over pack up and go. As far as I'm concerned the rest is on him.

I see I should have given this thread a different title. This is a big deal for me and something I was expecting to happen and me being a part of it.

I have a whole BUNCH of jobs coming up.
However, I don't feel the need to post about them until AFTER they have happened.

My favorite is posts about gigs that get moved & shut down by the police and all they really want is a sound system.
I play Happy Trails as the guest leave.

I made a special edit of Happy Trails (the Van Halen version) where I added a bunch of "goodbye" drops. Like the ending of Ferris Bueler.

Wow! Mix; That was a lot of information.

This seems like something most would charge $1295 or better for
That's what you would charge? For this one I'm not supplying the sound system. I was told I just will need to use my controller with my laptop and just plug into the system for the event. I will open up the show before the show is to start and after the show finish playing till its time for the event is to be over. So this should be a easy gig for me. Not a lot for me to do. If I actually went by the time I was given I would be playing less than 2 hours. The doors open at 8 and I plan to start playing around 7:30 since I figure se people will get there before 8 to attend the event.

Yes that would be my minimum rate on a prime date during peak season, it’s about the income potential of a given date not the gig itself

See, that's where you didn't think this through.
Your basing this on YOUR income potential....
not his.
No disrespect intended. I wasn't comparing what he would have quoted. I don't pay his bills and his way of doing things is how he does it. I'm not upset so please don't anybody on here thinking such a thing.

Seems like an odd lineup to be opening up for Hunter. https://www.hunterhayes.com

I highly Doubt Mix has any clue who the current chart topping country artist Hunter Hayes is
You're right. I only know very little about Country Music. I have never done an event where the client wanted Country Music.

I did talk it over with my DJ buddy. There are 3 concerns in doing this event. First this venue is very small. So if he plans on doing things the way he says, it's going to be super tight in the venue with the amount of people he plans on coming to the venue to see the show.

I'm to bring in my controller and laptop for me to use and hook into the system that night of the show. Hopefully the system will be decent and how will we be able to run the wires to hook into the system. I just recently bought 4 50 feet XLR male to female wires so that should do it. Just run the 2 wires from the back of the controller to the mixing board, setup my laptop to play the music and hookup the wireless mics to the controller.

I keep telling people my job is to my job, get paid and leave. He told me not to worry about the other things. That's his responsibility. That's fine with me. I just don't want people looking at me if things don't turn out well

I do know because he was up there at the senior spot in Montclair that I play at sometimes and play cards that he sold a bunch of tickets to people who are attending the show. They know me far too well. I just don't want them pointing a finger at me if things are not that good at the show.

I just realized something last night. I've been in that venue twice. Once helping out a DJ just starting out that I was told is no longer in the business. The other time was my best friend and his wife's 30th wedding anniversary. I wasn't the DJ. They wouldn't allow me to be the DJ because I was the best man at their wedding. They just finished celebrating their 38th anniversary.

This will be my first time working in this venue. I'm not crazy about this venue. It's super small. I told my partner I'm not crazy about doing this event because I know it's going to be super tight in there for everyone including me. He asked me than why was I doing it. I told him because it's a paying gig. Not to mention I get to see the show for free.

I remember doing a wedding once time and the officiant blew the names...not one person there thought it was me....They won't think its you either

Thanks but let me say this. What he's looking to do I n that small venue is crazy. I was told to let him take care of that. So I'm minding my business, doing my job and getting paid. End of story. I just asked can I take pictures and he said yes. That ended it for me.
