Here's the deal. I did this event for this guy's wife. That was the women's empowerment speaker thing.

So he wanted me to do ths big event in the park that he has for his sons memorial every year. He tried to stroke my ego by telling me how much his wife loved my work. So he thought I was automatically going to do it because of this.

Now I get that the event is what it is and I don't mind helping out but the price has to be right. He wanted me to cut my partner out of the deal because last year the sound was terrible.

So he tried to soup me up telling me how he knows that I got the right sound. He didn't need to tell me that. I already know that.

I found out that last year that he played the sympathy card and got my partner to do it for $250. As my partner explained it to me he got what he paid for. He wanted to teach him a lesson.

So I talked it over with my partner and I was serious about this. I understand it's basically a charity event and that's fine. We weren't looking to kill his pocket because we've done this event for him a number of years in a row. Last year I wasn't involved. All we were asking for was $300 doing a big favor for that price.

For the $300 we were going to give him the 2 Yorkville subs, 2 powered tops and the double 15's on the stage. Now where could he get all of/ that for that price?

This event is all day. He wants you there at 10am to set up and the event isn't over until 7:30pm. He told my partner he can get anybody to do it for $250. We both wish him good luck.

My plan if I don't have a job to do that day is to attend the event so I can have a great laugh! All we wanted was an extra $50. It's not like we were asking for a ton more of money. Also it's not like he doesn't know about our work and how good we are. This is the crazy part. He is looking for the DJ to provide the generator or 2 of them and that's all he wants to pay.

I'm a very nice guy and I lIke to help people when I can but I'm not that damn nice! I guess he'll learn a valuable lesson after this year. Either way we won't be the DJs.

My father had a lady at the American Legion he does ask him to DJ her daughter's wedding. She asked what he would charge for that, and he told her he really doesn't do weddings any more, but he would be willing to do it for $850 for her. She was applauded by the price. Thought he would charge her $150 LOL. They didn't book him. He didn't care either.

I had a lady who was a referral ask what I would charge to do their daughter's graduation party. I told her $500. She told me last few years they had their community "resident DJ" ...(Some guy with a sound system) do their yearly back yard party for $125. She wanted a better DJ because that guy doesn't know music that teenagers would listen to... She couldn't understand why I am quoting $500 though. Needless to say she said she would discuss it with her husband...She still hasn't called back. I won't mind having the day off either.

There are certain segments of the population that don't make much money, have always purchased the cheapest possible products for their every day living, and think everything outside of a couple hundred dollars is a crazy price for most anything. They certainly won't value paying for a DJ for a picnic or birthday party...or even a wedding.

I wonder how they react when they have a major repair on their vehicle that needs to be done!

Mix may I ask why a partner do something yourself, just put your big boy pants on and do it
I do events on my own. This event is too big and too much work for me to do this by myself. Physically I can't move all that gear alone and play that long. You need to understand the point of this. For the money he wants to pay he can look elsewhere for a DJ to do that event.

Glad you said what you did. My partner told me he had people who know him look for him to do their wedding for $150. LOL.

Taso to answer your question I've felt sorry for people and just cave in and do their event for next to nothing. Time for a change. I've said this before. When I first came back I was excited to be back. So I would do an event to get back out there and show off my talents. Those feelings at my age have wore off.

as in what way is it too big
This event is outside at Branch Brook Park in Newark, NJ around the basketball court. So what's needed is some real fire power for it to sound the way it should. He couldn't pay that when we were looking out for him, then screw him.

But nothing! Some people asked me what he is going to do if we don't do it? Frankly my dear I don't give a damn.

Mixmaster Drama Man.....

And I would almost bet money that you did the empowerment event for a huge discount because you were a definate on the park event.

SUCKER

Screw him? Yeah right. You already said that if you don't have anything to do that day your going to stop by. Im sure that if the sound is not "Through The Roof" with that NACHOMAN firepower you will just open up the backdoor of your SHED, I mean van and loan the DJ two of your 18 mismatch subwoofers to bring his sounds up to your standards. And it will be like a gift to him because you won't even charge rental.

MixmasterNachoman=Community Charity DJ/Gear Rental professional. And it's all on the house.

I won't stoop to your level sir. I said I wanted to go to have a good laugh. I won't be there to help anybody to do a damn thing. If they don't have the right tools to get the job done right then that's on them. Even if they offered to pay me something to help them out I won't do it.

If I come there I will have the day off. I will bring my lawn chair and a cooler full of Pepsi.

The magic words ( even if they offered to pay me ) Mix I played in the village park for the Zone here in Richfield. I was set up on the basketball court all I brought was 4 2way 15 inch JBLs I had more than enough sound for the area I was playing in. YOU are not playing for a rock concert

You totally miss the point. What the issue was about is what he wants to pay. He doesn't want to go beyond $250. At that rate he can do as he said. Find anybody to do it for that price.

So tell him for $250 you can bring your DSR tops ONLY and play for a few hours. You may be correct that you need more to "do it right" .. but that doesn't mean you can't do it effectively with minimal gear.
