Hello, everyone. My name is David. I'm a DJ in San Diego, CA. I have worked with my father most of my life (and he's been a DJ for about 30 years), but I'm going independent now.
Welcome aboard

Good luck and congrats! Is he still DJing or getting out of the business?

He's been saying that he's getting out of the business for about 5 years, and his next wedding is in June, haha. He seems to get another event from every event that he does.

Congrats, and welcome!

What are your plans for getting your name out there independently?

He's the second best looking DJ in the business!

You'll do great, Sir! Looking forward to you funding my retirement, which will be in about 3 years, or so, maybe 5. 10? I don't know.

BTW, I have two weddings this weekend. I'm to friggin' old for this.

Hi everyone,

Gunjan here. I'm from California, and I've been mixing since about 2004 or so and started doing weddings about 9 years ago, as well as music production about 10 years ago. I am a full-time chemical engineer and part-time DJ, except for when my gigs get intense and feel like a full time job. Mostly a solo operation (1 assistant [my dad] on occasion) and do up-lighting and now dabbling in DMX control programming for FX lighting / moving heads now. I play a lot of genres as most of my clients are diverse in ethnicity and musical tastes, primarily Hip-Hop / R&B / Top-40 / Latin / Bollywood / Bhangra music. I have picked up some important posts and resources from this forum in the past few days and figured it's a good idea to join the active community here. My next gig is in Rock Springs, Wyoming. Hope to participate more when I have time, and learn more from all of you. website here for reference: DJ GUNJAN: Professional Sound & Event Production Services - (http://djgunjan.com)

Welcome Gunjan!

Welcome aboard Gunjan. I know a few folks could use an occasional help with Indian music.

Congratulations! for deciding to join our group. We're a diverse crowd for sure. Opinionated...yep! Willing to help others, YES.
As Steve 149 commented we can always use another "India" music source. Although my membership shows Fayetteville, NC I am actually living and operating in Florida. Relocated in 2016.
If you need help with 70 - 80 birthday party music, I can help. Enjoy sailing on the good ship ODJT but hang on tightly 'cause the water can get turbulent at times.

Hey guys! I’m a girl in her thirties. Currently living in Windsor Ontario, across the river from Detroit. (I live closer to downtown Detroit than most detroiters.)

Was pretty much born into DJing, my dad has been a DJ since the early 80s. I really had no choice in the exposure to it. It’s pretty much 90% of what he talks about. And I’m grateful for it because I’m finally going into business on my own, after working for my dad for over a decade. I’m a bit nervous to start this on my own, buying my own equipment (my dad’s is kinda ancient... and hand built by someone who passed away recently so if it broke I wouldn’t even completely know how to fix it...) anyway, nice to meet everyone. You’ll be hearing from me!

Nice to have a member of the opposite sex bring music that we may not have thought about to the table. Hold on tight to this rocky boat. Most of the time it's smooth sailing but the waters do get a bit choppy at times but no hurricanes here. Hope you like popcorn. Sometimes, but not in awhile, we have a heated debates mostly about Bose and other "stick" speakers. BTW, what ancient equipment are you carrying about? Do you require a "roadie" or does your Pop double as mentor, too? Welcome aboard.

Lol. Somehow these speakers/system have worked for my dad for like decades. And I won’t lie, they actually sound pretty good. When they work.

I’d be doing gigs and call him and say... “dad one of the speakers isn’t working what do I do... yes I pushed the breaker button.”

His response was to push them together and no one would know one wasn’t working hahaha. The man used headphones that probably cost him like 20 bucks. He was an advocate of “its not what you have, it’s how you use it, and your personality...” Well now that it’s my turn to do it my way I am going to upgrade ...pretty much everything haha.

His lightshow, one of the two pieces of equipment he used, only the red lights work, ...and the other colour was green. Like Christmas. But the green didn’t work most of the time. His other light show thing (you can see it on top of the one speaker) he told me to turn the thing off every few songs so it didn’t over heat.

I think back in the day his equipment was really good, the guy who made the tower (his boss at one point before he took over...) he was really nerdy toward designing DJ equipment. Unfortunately he passed away a couple years ago and I think since, my dad has been pretty much ready to retire. He kinda stopped spending the cash on keeping updated with equipment since 2005 though. We laugh all the time about how ridiculous his setup is. He’s happily retired as of this weekend haha. Showed him my DDJ 1000 and he said he should have listened to me haha. Looks like fun.
