I have an old Lenovo I used to use as my main laptop to DJ with. I decided to put it to backup duty because the power cord has a tendency to not stay in. I have Monopoly installed on it and I play that sometimes. I also use it to make CD'S for me to listen to as I'm driving. I rarely listen to the radio because they play some garbage to me or repat playing some old songs.

I pulled it out of the laptop bag and went to use it. I pushed the power button and it came on. Then it said fan error and shuts off. What could be the reason for this?

It's hard to say... could be full of dust/debris, could be a failing motherboard, may even ben something not related to the fan at all. Do you hear the fan run when you power it on? How long does it stay on? Does the bottom of the laptop get hot to the touch?

It quickly shuts off. It stays on for not even 5 seconds. I'm taking it a someone I know to find out what the issue is.

Without seeing it my first guess would be Motherboard or Hard Drive. HD is a pretty simple fix pop it out pop a new one in and install the OS. You can find a 500 Gig for around $60. If it's a Motherboard and you are lucky enough to find one it will probably be in the range of a $300+ fix and if you need new RAM for the board even more then you have a new motherboard in an old computer that the power supply won't stay in

At the risk of pointing out the obvious... could just be a broken fan.

Apparently Im not reading for comprehension today LOLI missed the word fan completely. Could be dust and debris in the fan I believe the Levano fans are a but smaller than normal

Mine is a Lenovo that I got for less then $50 and it's still working. I only play Monopoly on it and to DJ with. Never been online. I bought another Lenovo brand new for backup for a little over $600 and I too have not used it yet as a backup to DJ with. I'm using it to make this post.
Please see fit to combine threads .😀

Here is the crazy part. I took it to a computer store that does repairs. Lady plugs it up push the button and it comes on. I will see if it comes on in the house.

It does boot up and I used it for a while. The issue is it will tell you to plug it into another power source before it shuts down. So it might just need a good cleaning inside.

Mixxy, you more than likely have a short in your power cord. Try playing with the cord & check your charge indicate on the laptop so as to look for a short.
that may be why it worked fine for your repair person? The short momentarily disappered. Time to buy another laptop .

I finally found out the issue with that laptop. The power cord needs to be fully in. Sometimes it get a little loose.

That still doesn't explain the fan error issue

Use a little contact cleaner. I use on all cables & sliders. Cleans up your sound with good contact & ends insert and remove with greater ease.😃
