Here is my DNP list of songs for today's wedding...

Don't Stop Believin' ...This is the 3rd time I have seen this on a DNP
Mr. Brightside - Killers ....I HAVE NEVER SEEN THIS ON A DNP...I THINK THE BRIDE/GROOM ARE TIRED OF HEARING IT AT PREVIOUS WEDDINGS THEY HAVE BEEN TO...
Ignition - R. Kelly (NO R. KELLY SONGS AT ALL)

...Easy to stay away from these songs, but a bit surprising

Also, I had Uptown Funk on a DNP a few weeks ago...first time I seen that on a DNP!

Outside of the typical stuff over the years, what are you seeing that are new songs and a bit surprising they are on a DNP list for you?

Never have given this much thought. Do not play list has been very different for each reception. usually only have one of two dnp . Sometimes it's a song that reminded them of a past relationship
The chicken dance use to be a big one over the years. Never play anyway . Had one two weeks ago, No Taylor Swift & the couple where both fans of country along with all your normal dance music. When the newlyweds dance all night reading the crowd and keeping the dance floor full easier.
Nothing as far as DNP surprises me anymore.Never read much into the requests.

My friend asked me a question about R Kelly. He wanted to know what I felt about playing r Kelly songs because of the situation he's in right now? I was not there when he allegedly did what he was accused of. My thing is if a client wants to hear a song or songs by R Kelly then that's what I would play. It's not about me at all it's about what the client wants within reason. Now I don't like a client who says oh you can play anything. I don't like doing an event that they are OK with playing songs with explicit lyrics. Now the problem with this is 2 things. Some songs are so dirty that event the clean version can only be but so clean and some guest may take offense to playing songs with explicit lyrics. Those clients who don't see anything wrong with the DJ playing songs with explicit lyrics are clients I like to stay away from.

I guess they both joined the list of songs that Brides think are played too often. Even though most of the guests would probably enjoy hearing them.

Simple...just say I don't have any R Kelly songs....even if you do.
to You missed my point. His songs are not vulgar like some others that you can question if you should play such stuff by them. Some are going to judge him on being convicted on the things he was accused of and won't have the DJ play any of his music. That's their choice. I never saw the video that he was supposed to be in urinating on a female. Someone tried to show it me and I refused to watch it. I don't want to see something as vulgar as that. Now there are plenty of songs that I'm either tired of playing or just plain don't like but again it's not about what I like or dislike. If I feel it's an event that we can handle and I feel it's a safe event then it's about what the client and their crowd will want the DJ to play so we don't make ourselves look bad in the eyes of the client and their guest.
I've said this time and time again and again. If I feel an event is something that we would not do a good job I don't have a problem with just saying no. There are those who are gig whores. Those are the ones who will agree to do an event and it might not be a good fit just to say they made some money. That's one of the reasons I turned down the event that they wanted a bunch of Country music and how they were looking to pay the DJ. I didn't know any of those people and I was told that they pay was to be in a check. There just wasn't enough time to see if the check would clear and I think they wanted to give the check the day of.
