I couldn't resist having fun with this client. The ad was from craigslist. I go on there sometimes looking for stuff to buy or sometimes to see who is looking for a DJ to do an event for them.

I came across this ad saying the client was looking for a non professional DJ to do an event somewhere in New York. Not sure where. I understand the event took place this Saturday at a restaurant. It was a birthday celebration and it was a lot of Filipino people who attended the event. The client was looking for someone to do it for $100.

I emailed them saying for them to tell the truth. You're looking for a desperate DJ to do the event. The event was for 3-6pm. We exchanged emails and I just got this one yesterday saying I'm ignorant because I didn't see this as a business opportunity to get more work. They said they paid the DJ that did it $125 and that a bunch of people attending the event wanted the DJs number.

The funny part for me is that they said it was a famous DJ that did the event. I know the ad was on craigslist and I know in most cases people looking to book a DJ on there aren't looking to spend a lot of money. I know I'm not the most expensive DJ in town or that famous but even I wouldn't have done that event for $100. Now even though we could use more exposure. That to me is ridiculous. If the DJ is that famous what are they doing chasing after such a cheap gig? If they are that famous it looks like to me they would be well above doing a gig for $100. Well at least they got a $25 tip. LOL.

I sent them back a email saying I would tell them I would be there to do the event but for that amount of money I would roll over and go back to sleep. Just couldn't resist having fun with them. I finally said what are each one of those people looking to get the DJs number going to look to pay them $125 each.

If you spent the time working on your website that you did emailing people that are never going to book you it wouldn't look like this

The thing that got to me is the DJ they got is a famous DJ. Who knows any famous DJ that agrees to do an event for $100? How famous could this DJ be?

Famous is all relative. You think that JJ the DJ guy is famous the rest of us never heard of him

Maybe they just "assumed" the DJ was famous since they saw his pictures up on the Post Office walls.

They said this DJ did them a favor. OK I can get with that. I have certain people I can do a special favor for.

Mix you are either off your meds or need to start over at step 1 of your “program” You do more free or cheap events than the rest of us on this board combined the only difference between you and the DJ this place hired is people ask you to work free or cheap directly and he answered an ad. You need to face the fact that if you didn’t work for free or cheap you would have very very few gigs when’s the the last time you took home $500 from a gig not split with a partner you alone made $500 in one night or with your partner made $1000

i just don't get why you reached out to them in the first place. What part of the ad appealed to you? The budget of $100? The fact that they wanted a non professional dj? Did you think they'd magically increase their budget to $200 for Mixmaster Macho? The event was in NY where parking and tolls alone would've cost you $100 if you brought the van. I just don't get what you were thinking

I have no doubt these clearly desperate despite being "famous" deeeeeejays are merely famous providing free noise.

To clarify: Famous is not synonymous with talented or valuable...see Paris Hilton, Pauly D...

If the ad said non-professional DJ why would you even bother calling or contacting them, unless you are one? They gave the price. Not much more to discuss unless you think you can talk them into more money, like that’s going to happen. But even if they double it wow, $200. Maybe some bedroom DJ will use it as a start. Everyone has to start somewhere. One thing to remember just because someone asks for your number doesn’t mean much unless they call. But it’s a start.

I haven't been around here for almost a year and he has not finished his website yet
.. or his contracts .. or his business plan .. or ...

I've had the contract for years. Just had to present one on the 12th. So that counts for my bid for the event..
We don't know they're finished .. you had promised to share the contract, but haven't .. :)
