It has been an incredible, eye-opening, head scratching, "are you kidding me", ring no answers, ignored messages & emails, and highly frustrating two and a half month adventure; to be qualified, then disqualified, then qualified, then disqualified again, then to have money show up in my checking account totally unannounced.

The path has been set straight and, although not nearly the substitute for the income lost, refunded, or postponed, it beats a sharp stick in the eye. I'm receiving Self-Employed Unemployment benefit from NY and the Federal PUA benefit from Uncle Sam.

My hope is that the agencies involved and the folks that control their budgets realize how archaic their systems are (initially, one NY agency could not recognize any browsers other Internet Explorer for data entry), get their own people and resources up-to-speed.

Please, be well, and stay well. Second Covid-19 wave is beginning and, as anticipated, more ferocious than the first.

I've been trying to get partial unemployment for about 8 weeks.
Tried call...and, of course, all I get is a busy signal.
Chat doesn't work, and emails are not returned.
I understand the gravity of their situation....but people's lives and livelihoods are on the line.

So glad you were finally taken care of.

I didn't have any problems...other than I think I'm getting too much and will have to pay some back, so I'm banking it just in case.

My GF drives a school bus and part of the CARES act the drivers got their BASE salary through the end of the school year, june 2. Since 30-50% of their pay is made up of trips (sports, field, etc) they made LESS than they would have working and LESS than they would have on unemployement with the PUA.

A few drivers have gotten their unemployment, most have not...and it's debateble if their eligible for PUA - since they changed who is/isnt 2 weeks ago (at least in PA).

As for calling, chatting, etc...good f'n luck.

GF called the local state rep office...told she'd hear in a week. 8 days later she called was told "well, they changed the system...every 10 days the list of those that have called in the last 10 days is turn over...so you're name will be turned in monday, then it could be 10 days till they call."

Joy.

Then by all means, let's put these bureaucrats in charge of everything...Sheesh.

I have friends that grew up in Poland, USSR, and East Berlin. They can tell you stories about government departments that make these stories seam like a cake walk.

But yes, let's put the government in charge of everything so no one can possibly get rich and all of the money would then come back to the people. Isn't that how ecomics work?😄. It does in Bernie's world.

Much better than a system that creates more wealth, a higher standard of living for people that want to earn it, and more freedom than just about anywhere else on Earth.

Yes, we got more issues than Vanity Fair. But even in the worst economy in my lifetime, there are opportunities today for people that want them.

Scott, I agree with the "No matter how bad, someone else has it worse" thought process but I don't live in Poland, or the USSR, or Detroit. My expectation levels are based the here and now.

If a government system/agency/department is in place to serve the people, then the rightful expectation level is, as it should be, to do its job and to do it efficiently and effectively. There is no reason why a government system./agency/department could not be modeled to reflect an effective private sector counterpart.

As a former California public employees union chairman, I fully understand the politics of empire building, Peter Principle promotions, and controlling party leadership placement "thank you"'s, but even in all of this, "Do your job!" People in legitimate need are counting on the promises.

I agree. It absolutely can. And should. And I do know there are people in government that want to do a good job. There are some that do. I'm just saying that in general, having a company that's faced with competition will have more incentive to do it effectively than a government agency that often has the opposite incentive to be as bloated as possible.

I certainly didn't mean to downplay your experience. I was just using it and the other countries' examples as to why we shouldn't be looking to expand the role of government in most areas.
