Upper 80’s outside everyone in the barn for dinner it’s probably 5-10 degrees hotter inside as soon as dinner is over everyone outside can’t even get the wedding party to come back in and suggestions besides moving outside as that’s not possible

Such things happen. Itigger said it right. Not every event we do the crowd is a big dancing crowd. They just aren't. All you can do is keep your head up, do your best and keep it moving looking forward to your next event. Just look at it this way. You got paid right? Now if it continues to happen at events you do, then it's time to check what you're doing wrong. I doubt if it's you in this situation.

I had a wedding 20+ years ago in a non-smoking venue and I swear every guest was a smoker. The whole party was just outside the room smoking the entire party. I did get them to come inside for some of the spotlight events but I think the only reason people came back in was because the bride asked them to. It was a very frustrating evening. However, that bride referred more business my way than any other client. We lost touch when she moved out of the area but 10 years later she returned and she is now one of our closest friends.

Got to ask this question. Any DJ on this forum who has never expressed this happening to them at an event?

I did opt for coffee today , Not expressed

Why are you trying to be funny!? Every DJ I know has done an event where the people weren't into dancing at the event. I can remember 2 different kinds of events where it happened. One was a class reunion. It was girls catholic high school. My partners GF went to the school and that's how we got the job. They only danced to one song at the end and it was Donna Summers Last Dance.

They were there just to catch up and mingle. We just provided background music until the last song.

The other one was a 50th bday celebration/family reunion. We were never told about it being a family reunion as well. I kept trying to find out what kind of music the lady wanted for her birthday celebration and never got anything from her. She lived in Georgia and I never got any response from her, no matter how many times I asked the brother to let us know what she wants us to play. They only danced during line dance songs and that was it. His sister got jealous of her brother slow dancing with a woman. Real crazy.

We were given a suggestion next time this happens and that is to ask people for what they want to hear. THANKFULLY IT HAS NEVER HAPPENED AGAIN!

Sometimes they're not there to dance (I've done a number of reunions and smaller parties where dancing is minimal) ..

Sometimes it's because the WRONG music was played .. need to know which one it was .. and I question it because of things like the Air Horn blasting in the Cupid Shuffle video you posted. There's a time and a place for everything.

I agree with you. He's just a nut for that effect. I hate he uses it as much as he does.

Sometimes, there's just nothing be done. The only important thing, don't let it eat at you. When you get caught in one of those no-win situations, smile and play the music then go home and cash the check. Live to fight another day.

SUPER GREAT ADVICE

Did you read my post or just glance at I said had no one in the room everyone was outside

Tunes, don't feel alone. I've got one of those going on tonight. Everybody's out on a patio, smoking while I stare a bare handful of dancers on the floor. 2 more hours then I can forget this %#$@% night.

Sunday weddings are RARELY as energetic as Saturday weddings. Only exception to that might be when you do a Sunday wedding on a 3 day weekend like Labor Day Weekend or Memorial Day weekend. Outside of that, I think Sunday weddings generally have about 1/3 the energy potential of a Saturday wedding.

Fun Fact: I won't have a single Sunday wedding in 2020! to do! Or a single Sunday event for that matter!

I have 4 bars that I play at on Sunday afternoons outdoor bars usually some sort of grilled food special either a 11-3 gig or 2-6 easy $300 in coffers on an off day

Sorry if I got it wrong. I saw the post where you put a speaker outside and said people were toe tapping. Then I saw what another member posted. Now you're posting on here and that says to me you got time on your hands, there's not a lot that you have to do.

Had a wedding MANY years ago, when I was a newbie.
Middle of August in a Rod & Gun club with NO air conditioning.
After intros and first dance...bride and groom, wedding party and all the guests
plated up their buffet dinner and went outside to eat.
There were no chairs or tables, but it was a little breezy in the shade.
So I loaded up all the classic rock I could find, put it on auto pilot,
and sat outside with everyone else for a few hours.
Went in every now and then to play a request or two.
I don't really think they were a "dancing" crowd anyway.
