Every time I see this Enterprise Rent-A-Car commercial, I think about DJ banners.

In the commercial, she has car troubles and is renting a car. Enterprise delivers. But she has to tell Enterprise where to deliver it. So she turns around, and reads the sign. Apparently, the business name is "Repair shop".

Is that any different than a DJ with a sign that says DJ [name] ?

For what it's worth, I understand that for the commercial they had to come up with a business name, and didn't want to give any real business an unintended endorsement.
The whole point of the commercial is that Enterprise delivers.

But you get my point....

we have 2 netbook SkinIts on the front of our small facade

Although I don't use my signs at weddings anymore I do use them for public events.

I've said it before DJs are the only business people I know who won't tell people who they are

Public events and bridal shows, we have a sign. Private events and weddings, no sign, just business cards tucked in as part of the setup.

I never EVER use them at weddings (because its tacky)

other events I would be using some sort of sign!

We include our logo on the video screens occasionally at every event we do. We have several slides with our logo, name, etc and use them when we do not play a music video (generally 2 songs a night maybe). We don't have any other signage except on the side of the 53' trailer parked outside.

Yup, just on the side of a 53' trailer...I love how you say that like it's no biggie. :triwink: :tritongue:

I have been thinking of getting something very small that would be able to be read when they come up to the table but nothing that would be readable from across the room. But haven't thought of a great idea yet.

As Pepsi Cola, Coca Cola, Budweiser Beer, and thousands of other successful businesses will tell you....Branding is an integral marketing technique that works!

Branding is your identity--it's what distinguishes you from your competitors.

When you see a Clydesdale horse--what is the first product that comes to mind?

At Christmas-time, who can forget that classic Rockwell painting of Santa drinking a bottle of COKE?

How about the TV ads where everything in the photo is RED---hmmm TARGET?

Whether you tastefully utilize a banner, a gobo projection, a laptop skin, or just a simple sign----Branding is a vital key to marketing success.

This doesn't mean you need a 10 foot banner at your wedding gigs -- but---you should produce a "branding identity" of some sort, and utilize it everywhere you possibly can!

At weddings, or for that matter, any private formal event, you can tastefully display your Logo on your video screen during the event wrap up. You can also project your logo monogram at the beginning of the event as you introduce yourself.
The key is to be tasteful!

You do not want this "brand identity" showing for the entire event.
A short, tasteful, display at the appropriate time is more than adequate.

Mr. Cie,
I totally agree with you. The Hotels and Venues have no problems putting their logos on the napkins etc. While some DJs refuse to display a tasteful sign that is appropriate for the event at hand, they have no problem setting up gear with the Manufacturer's Logo showing, such as JBL, Bose, EV etc.
It brings back the age old question, what is your business worth? Most restrictions on DJs are self imposed by the DJs themselves.

Of course its different for different folks and different markets, but we've gotten hired because we don't have banners or any other branding except our business cards.

Do the clients actually stipulate that clause in the contracts? Who brings up the topic? Do you pull of the manufacturers logos from all your visible equipment? You did also say "any other branding"

We don't do custom contracts, so there are no additional clauses. Its just something we do because there are so many "professionals" who use loud banners and the likes.

I should clarify the "any other branding." I'm referring to banners, signs, gobos, slides on screens, etc. The only place our name shows up is on our business cards.

Just like using signs, etc can be a branding tactic and a way to get sales, not using them can also be turned into a branding tactic and a selling point.

I thought so......
