STAND ALONE STREAMING: NO LAPTOP REQUIRED

I can't get a hot spot to work in some of the venues I've worked at ... streaming ONLY isn't an option up here.
Have any of you guys looked into cellular amplifiers (repeaters)? I'm tempted to pick one up for the rare occasion I can't get cell signal. My brother put one in my parents' house and it's amazing at the difference it makes.
I had one at my house (Verizon branded) .. works fine, but you need a consistent WiFi signal .. not meant for travel or mobile use.
This is an awesome feature! My only problem is... i remix and re-edit 75 percent of my music... i dont allow an extra damn or hell...or over sexualized content into my sets...and many times find clever ways to edit it out without the normal beeps and reverses that only draw attention to the missing phrase... so my library is always going to be my own..and unique from something i could stream...

When I have to be dependent in real time on another service in order to fulfil my contractual requirements successfully, then it's time to hang up the phones.
I found a very good review of this unit. I haven’t had a chance to go through the full review of the unit yet. But just the overview of the features, what they put in the unit reveals some very interesting features. Two features are the ability to put into the unit up to a 1 TB HD and the ability to send a separate playlist to another zone.
One thing is for sure that this unit is not going to be cheap and neither are some the streaming services that it’s designed to use with. So this is not going to be a unit for the beginning DJ. From the overview, it Can run totally standalone an internal drive, USB drives or streaming.
For me, I do video and karaoke and DJ off the same laptop with a 17” screen which still isn’t big enough at times for me to see (you younger guys will find out what I’m talking about when you are older) so Obviously, this isn’t the main for machine me. But what is interesting is what they’re trying to do. I haven’t seen the specs on the processing power yet, but it will be interesting to see and what the cost of this unit will be

...but you've basically traded a box (a laptop) with storage and a cpu - and utilizing a separate controller, for another box (standalone player) with storage and a cpu - and a combined controller.
IMHO, a laptop is the greatest thing since sliced bread. I have never understood the made rush (smartphones, tablets, standalone players, etc.) to get away from it.
I like a mouse, I like keyboard shortcuts, I like playing around with different software on a big 17" screen...and maybe I've just been lucky, but I have also found laptop/DJ software combos to be extremely reliable.
I would agree with you except for one thing... Operating Systems. Computer operating systems do WAY more than you need for playing music, which means WAY more to go wrong. I can’t see myself replacing my computers with something else anytime soon, but I do understand other’s willingness to do it.[emoji4]

All-in-ones are nice since they can share functionality and they can be optimized for a specific workflow.
The downsides are that if 1 part breaks, it's generally useless, and you have to LIKE their workflow.
Personally I think you give up too much in flexibility and user preference on the high end units, but I can see an all in one on the smaller side (like a Denon MC6000mk3) for general mobile use. Take a tablet, embed it into a sub 20" wide unit, put in a 1Tb drive, 2 mic channels, etc. and you have a perfect unit for ceremonies, small events or for us non-club mixers ..

To each their own... but i dont own a laptop id rely on at a gig....so i also saved a couple grand... and i unretired from dj'ing having never used a laptop...so i didnt exactly "mad rush" for my stand alone unit....it was the most familiar thing on the market to the players id used 10 years before
The only stand alone unit ive found that had any consistent problems over time was the Denon 8000.... which i had zero'd in on as a possible purchase.... they guy at idjnow warned me...and actually brought the price of the Pioneer rx2 down enough to make it my main choice...
I dont have a preference about what other djs use... thats on you guys... ive just never used a laptop...and felt more comfortable with the rx2... its an amazing piece of art... and id recommend it to anyone asking...

ive tried to find any online instances of my particular brand "breaking" and havnt been able to... trust me...reliability is of prime importance... but if your laptop breaks... your controller is a door stop til you replace the laptop...so it all sorta balances out.. im tempted to buy this denon as a backup...so that would solve any added reliability worries...unless they both broke at the same gig...lol...

Now, "Open file in Audacity", which it does. Now, I can "Edit" whatever, and then Export it right back into the same Directory (I usually add "Audacity Edit" to the filename).
How can you beat that? I can't be the only one working like this?

Cant speak for this new denon... i use rekordbox on my desk pc...arrange and playlist... then sync my work to thumb drives which go with me to gigs... the minute i plug them in the info is updated.

Yes there is plenty of ways to look at this. But depending on how you handle your flow and how you handle when something goes wrong, If I the used unit I’d still have my laptop with me as a backup. Although my laptops have been highly reliable, my last was on crash a Vista laptop, I still have two laptops running for any major event. One thing I’ve learn being in this business for so long, Anything can go down for a variety of reasons, so be prepared.
Thats definitely the beauty of a stand alone unit... they work marvelously WITH a laptop as well... so its actually a great choice for anyone wanting that secondary backup without having to bring multiple high priced laptops with updates to java waiting in the shadows to destroy that special first dance...lol
