So I Did A Little Something New :)

Depends on the quality of the mic and the speakers. I rarely have feedback issues. In fact, my mic is always on and just resting on my console ready to be used... yet nothing get's picked up (just listen to my videos). To each their own though on the placement... I know I am not the only that has them lined up like that though (regardless of my controller being in front)... it really is a streamlined look when all the equipment is lined up like that. I'm sure in certain venues they could run streamlined with the controller, but since I was already on the dancefloor, not much further back I could go.
It's not feedback per say like "howling". What you actual are adding both to your voice AND the music is a slight amount reverb.

Try it yourself - stand on the dance floor, and have an assistant talking into the mic continuously, moving from behind to in front of the speakers - you should hear it. It isn't necessarily unpleasant, although it can interfere with intelligibility. However, be aware that if your mike is "hot" all the time, it is doing the same thing with the music.

Being so physically exposed instead of being behind your former facade would make many here (I assume) feel a bit vulnerable.

Aaahhh....but you're young and a nice looking enough chap (unlike me), so it will work for you.
But feel vulnerable to what? If you're not actually mixing and being active, or afraid of what people will actually see... then yes I can understand the vulnerability. If you're concerned about getting hit... I mean people are aware of their surroundings... and if they bump into me, whats the big deal. Everything is secured down very well. Even my laptops are secured in place. There are no wires for them to trip or pull over, they cant knock anything over, and there really is no where for them to rest anything.

The slide out rack is a really cool feature! I can't spare the transport space at this point to do something like this. But I like the look. And I definitely like having the mixing on display.

Well done!
Actually it breakds down quite easily. There is a case that holds the coffin just like the glide style case... its about 3inches longer and 4 inches wider... and the podium base is placed under the coffin in the case (theres an insert for it)... so really the only extra space you actually need is for the podium tower which is about 8 inches x 10 inches and about 32 inches tall or so. Its really thin actually and can even slide inside a truss to fit.

Perhaps... but isn't it always picking up something no matter where you are standing. I mean we're in front of the speakers when we do our introductions as well... unless you choose to hide behind the booth and speakers there too (which I think makes you even easier to not be noticed). I mean I even have a monitor... so there's no escaping that in front of that speaker "effect" you're talking about.

Over the last 2 years, I really have been eyeing a table of some sort. I got flamed for this last time I posted, but if you can't swing a custom table that looks cooler (no doubt), this is a great alternative while still keeping the "DJ look." A lot of people in my area use it, and believe it or not, opt for the carpeted one. Actually, the carpet looks ok somehow...

Just place your coffin on top. Granted, not nearly as custom and nice looking... but a lot better than a 6ft table.

I'm like.. totally maxed out on space right now. I'm renting a van for the homecoming I'm doing. But to add anything new to my set up right now would require a second driver, or a rental.

I've seen those as well around here, and many are creating they're own with white acrylic and those silver aluminum frames that you see those lighted facades made with. I almost went the acrylic route, but just didnt like how it didn't look as clean as I wanted it. Much cheaper alternatives exist for sure.

Correct - but you escape it by simply turning the mic off when not in use, or using a mixer that has a threshold level that automatically turns the mike on at a certain level. I also used to leave the mic "hot" all the time, but no more.

Trust your own ears. If the difference you hear when doing the vocal test with your assistant is acceptable for voice, then again stand on the dance floor (right in front of your podium facing the speakers) with the mic, crank the music turning the mic off and on again and see how it effects the music's sound. You will hear a difference

Guys and gals, Taso has line source speakers - the wave length from each driver to the mic is slightly different, making it less sensitive to the usual "howling" type feedback. Do not do the above test with a point source speaker.

Lol thats a tough problem to have. I dk what you use, but my ford transit van handles all my equipment which includes my sound needs for 3 systems (6 tops and 2 subs), tv's, 6 moving heads, photo booth, 6 trusses, 2 coffins (one backup), dancing on the clouds machine, 40+ uplights, stanchions, monogram projector, 8 -2'x2' led stage platforms, and I'm sure a couple of other small items.

I'll def give it a shot next time... I do turn the mic on the mixer off from time to time... but admittedly do forget quite a bit to do so, and it's only because I never noticed anything to make me need to turn it off.

Beautiful!
I am also one of those guys who doesn't like to hide behind a facade.
But I am not quite ready to be THAT exposed, either!
Having a table in front of me "scopes out" my own personal space....and gives me some coverage.

I don’t have a lot of other pictures, as I just started using it this weekend, you can kind of see some other details from the photos below. The last photo is a sample of another one of his designs that has a little bit of a frame and a pull out “rack”. Mine doesn’t have the frame or the pull out rack but it shows you how it’s exposed, and where the wires pass through. The wires were hard to see in the photo because we used white gaffer tape to match the white of the floor.

Hey,
Wanted to ask what this podium is made out of? In some ways it looks acrylic but not entirely sure.
