I know we've had a thread or two about this but I can't remember who has actually used these setups. I'm kinda toying with the idea of doing silent disco in my venue. Would still need speakers for speeches and maybe some background music but am thinking it might be really cool and unique to do the dance portion with headphones. For those who've used this setup, how many headphones for 100, 150 and 200 guests?

A Silent Disco is ok for a frat party or something not so much for a wedding. Granny just ain't putting the cans on

Personally, I think they would suck unless they were the ONLY option.

honestly i think to attempt to outfit 200 people with the equipment needed....lets say...at best 50 dollars a piece... you are looking at 10 grand...lol...for that you might as well put up a sound wall

I dunno, probably a dumb idea. I've heard some of the colleges around here use them and love it. You may be right, it might be near impossible to get folks older than 30 to put on headphones, although I couldn't see needing more than 30-40 pairs (people who are interested in dancing). It sure would take care of any possible noise issue with the neighbors.

While 30-40 people could be listening, the rest who hear nothing may just go home. No sense sitting around watching a bunch of people jump around with headphones on. This may cause the 30-40 to go home as well. Noise problem solved. I fear this will impact future income. Also, how do they/you handle disinfecting these?

To add on to this 'dumb idea' what keeping the headphone aspect but running the music through speakers at a low volume so everyone can hear what people are dancing to? Maybe more people would get interested and put on headphones?

I'm with Jeff though I don't see this panning out for weddings.

great idea for a skating rink...or for teenage parties where the lions share of the crowd are aware of what a silent disco is...and want it...

For a wedding...i think it simply wouldnt work...especially if u deem it mandatory as a solution to your neighbor issue...seems to me like people will already be making certain concessions to have their event with you... making everyone strap on tacky multi colored headphones or else sit in silence seems like a dealbreaker for 99 out of 100 prospects

I can't see it working for Skating Rinks either. I mean, you can skate on a tennis court and have the same thing. I think if most people are going to a rink, they know there will be music. Additionally, skating with headphones on presents safety issues - much like driving, walking, etc with headphones on.

Might work on handball courts ...

I have the headphones and I am using them for headphone outdoor movies and have rented them out for silent disco parties. Depending on what you want to use them for will determine if they make sense or not. Using them for a wedding is not what I brought for but if you’re in a venue which has noise restrictions, client has money and is open minded then it makes a ton of sense. If you don’t buy them you can always rent him and Up charge. Depending on what you use them for there were a couple of different types of headphones. One of the main uses of the headphones besides not having to use speakers is the ability to have multiple DJs playing at the same time. The big issue you’re going to have if you want to buy the headphones is they’re all made in China. With the current tariffs going on I’m not sure how that’s going to work. It could be 25% additional plus fees import fee. I have a direct contact overseas but I’ve put off any more purchases off until all this crap is resolved. For me I made my money back after the first event everything else is profit.

A skating rink would be a horrible Idea as you can’t hear what going on in your surrounding or someone coming up on you. The headphones aren’t for everyone but has been very popular & profit for quite a few companies who have them. I first heard about silent Disco 10 years ago so this is far from a new or passing thing. Couple years ago a whole waterfront section of bars and clubs had to convert to headphone systems. Couple of companies in the city promote events all throughout NYC at different locations ranging from boat rides, to museums , clubs, rooftop, subways & other locations. I’ve been to a couple of college headphones events and let me tell you I will take wearing a pair of headphones were I can choose one of 3 DJs and control my volume over A DJ blasting music at me any day.

I've seen these on cruises. They can be fun and offering 2 or 3 channels of music to a crowd is cool. But they do it once in a week and a relatively small amount of total guests show up. Lots of other Entertainment choices.

To offer it for different events might work. But as others have mentioned, to have it at weddings as a remedy for noise is a no go.

No, you just have to just think out from the box. Like a party in the park where they don’t allow amplified music, or better yet no electricity. I can do Easily if they have the money. My first use was for my home outdoor Movie system, Used the system for my daughters graduation party, it was a big hit, anybody wants to have a conversation just remove the headphone. You end up getting totally engulfed in the movie. What is interesting no headphones are missing, a couple broke, it’s the client who hands them out & collected them. They are numbered, the colleges use a tracking system with the students ID. I would say since you have to have the dollars to purchase a system your competition is limited.

hes not trying to buy them as an add on option for his dj business.... he's trying to buy them as a permanent solution to his fears of annoying his neighbors at his new wedding venue... so the advice has to be modified as to whether EVERY bride will be okay with this... and i think we can all agree...with zero doubt...that they will not.
