So I'm just getting into setting up some lighting in something other than sound mode (which actually works alright for most things it seems... lol). I have two Chauvet Wash FX Hex wash lights. I'd like to be able to control them via DMX so I can dim them, set a static color if needed, etc...

My current setup:
Laptop running showxpress - Chauvet 512s - Chauvet d-fi xlr transmitter - d-fi xlr receivers - wash fx hex lights.

What I want to do - basically be able to control both lights at the same time in the showxpress application. So If I set the light program to #4, it changes on both lights at the same time. If I want to dim the wash lights, I can control it in one place instead of trying to match it on two channels (or each individual fixture). In Youtube videos I've watched, it seems like this is possible, but I just can't seem to get it to work. I end up with two seperate channels and have to control the lights individually.

Hopefully I'm explaining this so someone understands it... lol. I just want to both lights to respond the same way when I make a change in ONE place. Is that even possible with Showxpress/DMX?

Thank you,
Jason

I assume you have the two lights on the same DMX channel?

Tess is right - if they're both set to the same channels, they will do the same exact things.

Hmm... no. But that makes sense. So set up one light in ShowXpress on one channel, but have two lights and enter the same channel on each light? I didn't even think of that.. but it seems simple.

Yep .. one fixture on 'these channels' .. set the fixtures address to the DMX of the 'first' channel. Make sure you're tracking how many channels needed (channel mode).

You guys are awesome. Problem solved. One fixture in Showxpress, two lights, both set to 40ch / xxx dmx channel, and all is well with the world. I knew it had to be something simple... and I was way overthinking it. I'll sleep much better tonight! Thank you very much!

We normally over think things that we don't know what we're doing or not sure. Especially when we're first starting out. I'm not saying this as a put down. I'm saying this because as we keep at it we learn more and more. Especially when we're determined to do things to get better and do things right. I'm proud of you so far just starting out. All I can say is WOW! You're way ahead of the game then most who are just starting out.
