I had a family member that had no less the 10 knee surgeries and 3 knee replacements. Thay cut him off on his opioid pain meds, so he didn't tell anyone but he was taking over 30 Advil a day. It destroyed his liver and he passed away form liver failier. He went from taking 3 safe opioids a day to 30 unsafe Advil a day. So witch is worse? Taking a safe dose that worked, vs. a very unsafe dose that ended up killing him. It's the abusers that ruin it for those that really need it. Occasional mild pain we all deal with, But there are many with constant savvier chronic pain that basicly leaves you bed ridden. But cutting back on safe legal opioids they forced people to turn to unsafe street drugs. Opioids do not make me high, they just help controle pain. If I want a buzz, I'll smoke a big fatty thank you very much.

You're one of the fortunate ones I see opioid addiction on a daily basis downtown here. There was actually a documentary produced on it a few miles from me I know the main guy in it he's clean now but he's as real in it as it gets. A few former addicts I know tell me Cocaine is safer. I've taken opioids on a couple of occasions from a personal perspective I don't like the way they make me feel.

That being said they should never just cut anyone off any heavy drugs science has proven that is actually more dangerous than the addiction

It's the abusers that just like getting high that are the ones ruining it for that have a legitimate need for them.(always is) The opioid crisis didn't start till doctors started cutting drug abusers off and creating a shortage and the drug cartels started filling in the gap. But these drug useres wanted to get high, so the cartels started spiking there drugs with fentanyl so there drugs were more popular among the drug abusers. This is what has cause the opioid crisis with all the people dying from using street drugs that are cheaper and easier to get.

This same story played out when pot was illegal ( and still is in some places) so people started making synthetic pot using different chemicals that were not illegal. And people trying to beat the law lost there lives. So those synthetic pot was made illegal. So they just changed the chemicals and sold it again.

Pot is about as harmless as any thing can be, but more peoples lives have been destroyed from the laws against them then the drug (if you want to call it that) ever has. And the same thing very similar is happening with the opioid crisis.
I take opioids for lagidimet reasons and as little as possible and they don't get me high. Thats why I like them is because they do not interfere with the ability to function without feeling high. Don't get me wrong, I like a buzz every now and then, so a few puffs from a big fatty and I'm good.

"lagidimet reasons"...OK!

I must admit I'm not addicted to the medication because I can skip doses and not have any withdraws from the drug. What I am addicted to is pain relief. As long as I'm not physically hurting, I do fine not taking anything at all. And depending on the severity of the pain, dictates if I use something mild such as Advil, but if i'm physically hurting a lot, I use the stronger meds.
I have been prescribed other meds that do get me high and I don't like them or how they make me feel. I cant drive or operate heavy or dangerous tools like chain saws. They make me lazy and feel lathargic and I'm clearly not on my game with those meds. It's all about what meds work for each individual. They all effect everyone differently, At Least my Doc gives me the option to make that judgment for myself.

If used correctly they shouldn't get you high and are a low risk to be addictive and I agree the addicts are the ones that cause the biggest problem with opioids
