shopping for new controller

Absolutely! Less Expenses means more profits! :djparty::cheers:

If I were doing things the cheapest way possible, I would be more like some other DJs I know.

...Kept my original speakers I started with that were from the 80s, still use amplifiers, only purchase VHF Gemini microphones, Never paid for a DJ program, and just acquire a cracked version illegally. Kept my old radio shack mixer that I started with all these years as my main mixer. Never bought bags for my gear, and just either kept that stuff in original boxes they came in...Yeah there are lots of ways I could be a DJ for much cheaper

...My wife tells me I spend too much money on DJ Gear with what I buy now, I don't think I would want to feel the wrath of her reaction if a Pioneer DDJ-RZX showed up on our door step or if I came home from Guitar Center with one lol.

Dude I’m feeling ya,,,,,, I myself have tried this year to not spend any money ,,,,,but I wanna new toy! The old one one was a great purchase (entry level). I bought entry level because that was just good advice! And there is nothing like people that ask for advice AND NOT TAKE YOUR ADVICE AT ALL!

I’m feeling good about the suggestions so far! Made me look again at a couple of models,,,, I’m leaning toward the pioneer sx3. But I am considering a used sx2 from guitar center. If I pop for the 400 and the extra warranty I could exchange it for 3 years money back (towards another guitar center purchase ). I am just very very anal attentive about my equipment,,,,,,, I don’t like the knicks and scratches on it! And don’t say that it will get scratched anyway! Most of my pieces in my set look like they are brand new! When I buy used,,,, I mostly get shit that is very very very gently used!

Then again.[emoji1]...

... for all the anti-cheap-gear fanatics.[emoji1]
He's not as much a DJ .. he's a guitarist/DJ and seems that the controller isn't a high priority. Plus he seems to be on a mission to use cheap gear .. sort of like Ricky ..

Wanting to use a cheap azz controller for the "negative" image effect??? Please ..

Besides, a DDJ-SB3 ain't so "tiny and little" ..

it's wider and taller than a Denon MC6000mk2 and only 1/2" shorter in depth ...

Hmmm??? If he’s NOT a DJ, he’s a darn good FAKER![emoji1]...

He's also not an SB2 in a club that actually has good gear, lol.

If I had to bring all that crap into a club, I might use something smaller too. Nobody wants to take 2 trips. But what you choose for mobile DJ work and club work is a very different mindset.

True, but the POINT is; it’s an ENTRY level controller... $250.[emoji1] That’s less than I paid for my first (entry level) controller. If the DDJ-SB had been an option back then, I surely would have gone that route.

And I LIKE @DJRickyB ‘s do-it-as-cheap-as-possible approach, if for no other reason than how CRAZY it makes the Gear Snobs![emoji1]

I may be a gear snob for what I use personally, but it makes no difference to me what anyone else uses. If everyone did what I did, I'd have to find other ways to be different.

To each their own!

Ah... If your not telling others that their gear is unprofessional, then you can’t be considered a gear snob. You’re gonna have to work harder at it.[emoji1]

I agree .. BUUTTT, when someone asks for an opinion, I'm happy to supply one. (sometimes even when they don't ask)

See, I'd call my DJ2GO "cheap" .. the Pioneer is entry-level and probably fine for a mobile jock (assuming they can get away with just 2 channels).

The OP is NO kid, and has been a DJ for a while... perhaps longer than me; so I would not offer any advice, but I can describe my experience. This might also be worthwhile for anyone just CONSIDERING getting into the DJ business. When I started, I really had no idea if I could actually learn to DJ, and even if I could, if I wanted to make a real business out of it. My first controller was an entry level controller, but a very good one... an American Audio VMS 4.1. It was very solidly built (not plastic), sounded great, and had all the features a beginner could handle. It turned out to be very reliable as well. I eventually purchased a MUCH more expensive Pioneer controller, but it sounded no better than my VMS 4.1, and lacked the same sturdy feel, so I never used it except for a backup, and since the VMS 4.1 never failed, I never had to use a backup.

I finally retired my VMS 4.1 in favor of the Denon MC6000MK2, which was not as expensive as the Pioneer, but is built MUCH better.

I used a coffin-style case for my VMS 4.1 and the Denons (I have two MC6000MK2’s) are mounted in racks, so I seriously doubt any client had any idea what controller I used, or even cared.

I kind of agree with the DJ in the video... For some DJ’s the big expensive controllers are part of an IMAGE, but it doesn’t take a big expensive Pioneer controller to give a great performance.[emoji4]

No different than some uses of Macs, totems, etc. I agree one doesn't need that to be successful. I disagree that one should opt for the opposite end though .. :)

You can use the DJ2 Go and be fine for a mobile jock as well...The only issue might be "Fat Fingers" or simply just not being comfortable using the platters
