What in the blue blazes happened to DJ Chat? I may be dredging up and old subject but where DJ Chat has gone is news to me. I took a short hop over there because I hadn’t signed in for months. I met a lot of wonderful people on DJ Chat that came over here a few years ago. I never dreamed ir would disappear. What happened?

I think Sid lost some sponsors and the desire to keep going. Perhaps he believed that Facebook groups were now the future. Personally, I like this place much better than a Facebook group.

I think it's been years my friend ;) I believe it was June or July 2020 he finally threw in the towel but it was a year or more before that he was hacked and it was never the same after that the site was up and down until he finally gave in. I contacted Sid a couple of times after it was permanently down I wanted to buy the domain name and possibly the database but he never responded.

Nice to see you around don't be a stranger

Thanks. I agree. I like the format here. Facebook has its uses but for the biz I prefer this.

Yes, It’s been many years since I remember seeing DJchat working like it used to.
is anyone old enough to remember when we used to get on to AOL to chat live?
I Think it was called DJTalk. I remember we were still using dial up. Believe it or not I’m still in contact with one guy I met Wayback then.

We used to have a thread that was the longest thread on DJChat. Some called it the Annoying Thread. It was purposely off subject and about a whacky as you could get. We hung out and had a lot of fun. But Ed the moderator died. Then Shirl Kuras died. Everybody kind splintered off in different directions. DJ Stu had counted pages and posts a one point and the number was insane.lol!

We had an annoying thread here too

We also have this one that is very similar but wasn't intended to be...Sadly both thread starters are gone now

Yes. That’s the one. The one Shirl referred to as Annoying Pt2. Carried over from DJ Chat. Shirl is gone , Ed Price is no longer with us, god rest their souls. I haven’t talked to Fred in years.

I often wonder about Fred I tried searching him out last year if it was him I found the phone number and email no longer work

Last time I spoke with Fred was shortly after Shirl passed away. I hope he’s doing ok.

Same here. I just found him on Facebook and added him as a friend I thought we were previously but maybe not. He posted there May 26 so he's still with us

I was the last mod standing at DJChat. I stayed loyal to Sid because he got me into my first NAMM show and that eventually led to a 15 year career in audio. Sid and I were not close and we rarely communicated. Hacking was an issue but there were also feuds between Sid and some of the other mods. We also had some bad mods and lost a few really good ones too soon (Franz and Dan come to mind). The next thing I knew, I was the only mod left. We had a problem with some members that continually harassed others and drove traffic away. It was no longer a fun place. I tried to discuss this with Sid but he was too busy with other projects. I was in the awkward position of caring more about his site than he did. I didn't want to ban members without the site owner support so the problems festered. Some of those members came here and started doing the same. At least Jeff was willing to do something about them.

A sad ending at best. Well, I wish Sid well. I spent a great deal of time on DJ Chat and made some wonderful friends, some of which I see here. There’s a lot of memories there with Fred, Shirl, Ed, Artie, Stu , Dan and a host of others. Glad to be here. Best wishes to everyone. This is a nice place to call home.
