Maybe some of you were already aware of this, but I was not. I ran across it the other evening. I think I'm going to download the beta and try it out. I hope this is a feature they roll out with the Serato Pro package in the near future. It lets you make acapella, instrumental, and other versions of songs with the click of a button. You can take out vocals, music, drums, bass, etc. I'm pretty Impressed.

Yes, VDJ has had it for about 2 years and it works perfectly with video too. I was doing a karaoke event and the music-video came up, I didn’t have the karaoke version. So, I just dialed back the vocals.
I could have use this 40 years ago when I was doing a ton of fashion, body building and hair shows where I needed instrumentals, lol The crap I used to have to go through to get the tracks we needed.

Guess I'm behind the times... lol. I thought STEMS was new. Jokes on me.
It's new on Serato... just not new generally speaking. But since most people are on Serato, it's a big deal that the platform finally got the feature. It's kinda like apple and android... when apple gets a new feature its a big deal... but android users are sitting there saying they've had the "new" apple feature for years.

What about not having a song at the time of the event.? A client or guest comes to you and request a song. You don't have it. Back then there was nothing you could do but tell them you don't have the song. Modern technology has changed that. 40 years ago there was no such thing as a computer DJ. You used turntables and now today the big thing is a controller. My how things have changed. Some for the better and some not.

I can't upgrade to the most current version of Serato right now because I'm nursing an old operating system. But I look forward to being able to play with it. I use quite a few acapella ins and out in my sets, it would be really cool to be more flexible around them and be able to create them.

I've installed the beta on my Windows laptop and it works pretty well. I love that it maps my parameter buttons on the Rane 70 to be Instrumental and Acapella buttons. The Acapellas aren't that great but they sound better than what VDJ creates and MUCH better than DJay Pro's version. The instrumentals is where the Stems feature really shines. I've heard from some other testers that there seems to be a memory leak which becomes an issue after about 3 hours of use. I have a few DJ fiends that experienced the issue while using the beta at a gig. I just play with it at home and have no intention of using it out in the wild until it is an official release.

Most people say that the memory leak has been fixed in the Beta 2 version serato made available. Version 300556

I saw or heard in a forum or YouTube, I don't recall... that it said you can download two different versions of serato... For example, this guy had his full version that he used for dj work, and he downloaded a second version (the beta version). He said you just have to name it differently otherwise one may overwrite the other. I'm a computer guy, and I was still a little confused. I'd want to put it on my laptop that I do gigs with, but don't want to hose it up... so I may just wait for the version to be released.

Serato recommends not running the beta version out at your gigs because of it being a work in progress. You can have both the beta version, and the latest released(non beta) version on the same computer.

That way you can practice on the beta version messing around with stems, and used the latest approved version for stability while at a paid gig.

Some people report successful use of the beta at gigs, but I wouldn’t take that chance personally.
