New Beta version that has a Daylight Mode GUI and Playcount. The primary purpose of the Beta is to provide feedback, but I know many who perform outside during the day need the Daylight Mode now - the reason for this post - just remember, this is a Beta, so use with caution and expect problems (and please provide feedback to Serato if you do).
You have to sign the non-disclosure agreement.

Itch - and it still runs the same, without error. :) That system has been completely reliable ... and the controller was alot more compact.

I betcha - sadly though, we can't live in the past. For example, the next gen of Macbooks probably won't even run 32 bit apps (and is probably tied to the big iTunes change that's coming).

I'm DJ'ing tonight on Mixvibes Cross DJ V3.4.3. IMHO, their newest version 4.0 stinks - but if I live long enough, someday I'll be forced to switch.

I'm not sure why the 'living in the past' statement - Serato hasn't changed all that much. Is all of your backup equipment brand new? My primary machine is running Serato 2.1. My backup is an 07 Macbook Pro running Mountain Lion, perfectly suited for running Itch - and it runs just as good today as it did when it was a primary use machine.

More info on the iTunes front: iTunes is changing for the Mac and not for Windows platforms, at least not yet.

I'll be glad when Serato moves on from their 2.1 That update sucked and it totally messed with my system in duplicating files and additional issues. Some never had an issue. For others it was a nightmare....which shows it was "buggy". I really value all of the input I found on here when that happened. I basically, though, had to manually do a lot of fixing of my files in Serato. Maybe 2.2 will be better. I've not had any issues up until this point with Serato.

What do you mean? Serato does not alter system files or music files when updating. It's just the app itself.

Your music database is stored within your music folder. Are you saying it got corrupted?

The "problem" with everyone's "problems" is that almost no two systems are the same, or are used the same. I shall try and explain.

I have used a lot of different Serato versions, up to and including SDJ Pro 2.1, on a lowly Windows 7 i3 laptop, and have never had a single burp. Lucky? Nah.
I run a small controller, I don't do Video, no DVS, no CDJ, no HID. I hardly use the Sampler, FX, or Flip. I don't mix using four decks at a time. 11K library.

Then there's the DJ using a 15" Macbook Pro w/flaky graphics when it gets hot, testicles to the walls hardware, wires all over the place, Mix Emergency Video, 100,000+ in the library, mixing four songs at the same time, all kinds of FX, scratching like mad trying for his twenty minutes of YouTube fame.

These situations are not the same, yet guess which one is complaining on the Serato Forum, bemoaning the move away from SSL, and that they shouldn't add any new features to SDJ until it's reliable? I kid you not.

While you understand that you need more horsepower for more things, you might be surprised to learn how many do not. They pick the cheapest thing they can find and expect it to do the full tilt. That's a BIG part of the problem. Itch fits into this area - small controller, no video, no sampler, etc. Works fine on the machine it's on (which was at the top of the heap for its time).

Absolutely, but Serato's own policy of having the hardware "enable" the software has further contributed to this.

First off, you're expected to be using a Macbook Pro - this has always been more popular with the Plug'n Play the computer is an Appliance crowd. Next, you must use hardware to enable the software - but it also sets up everything else. Serato users don't have to pick a sound card, assign channels, ASIO??, etc., etc., like real people have to. It just works. Obviously this is good on the one hand, but on the other, you have now attracted and enabled people who are frankly computer stupid (and should not be allowed to reproduce). I suppose in it's way this is also good, but unfortunately those same people now get to complain about self-generated problems, which is bad. God, I love this Country.*

I would suggest that a pre-requisite to a Serato license is you must first be able to successfully set up the Audio Output in Traktor using a multi-channel sound card - a truly humbling experience.

*While a product of New Zealand, Serato's largest customer base is in the USA.

You'd probably need to check out my initial post on it in May called "Ugh! The Serato 2.1 Update Trainwreck" to get the full scope of what was going on. On Serato's site they make it known that one of the "known issues" with that update is all of a sudden you'd get missing files and that the "find files" button wasn't working properly. You could point Serato to the folder the songs were in, in an attempt to show it where they are) but it wasn't seeing them and wouldn't re-map. I ended up having to manually delete the files that Serato said it was "missing" and manually re-import each song. It was a major PITA but I was limited in time because I couldn't wait for Serato much longer to come up with a viable fix due to an approaching 50th birthday gig I had to do.

that's been an issue from build to build, and as they recommend, using SL to rescan library fixed that little issue.
