Sears' third quarter was nothing short of terrifying

Anyone shop in a SEARS or K MART recently?

...They are DOOMED. I believe that in 2017 after this lackluster holiday season they will do a mass closing of various stores across the country. 9 straight quarters of declining sales. We might be witnessing the death of SEARS and K Mart in the next 2 years.

Shold have been gone long ago, there is really no reason for me to shop there, they have not even tried to remain competitive, I haven't been in a Sears store in at least 5 years, I will occasionally go to Kmart as the midsize town we shop in has that and a Wal-Mart, Kmart is easier to shop at because it is far less congested

K-Mart failing is dragging Sears down with it.
The K-Mart concept of "cheap" is being done by tons of stores now.
Sears, although a bit expensive, was always golden with Craftsman tools...
and now people are passing up on Craftsman quality for a better price at Lowes and Home Depot.

I waled my local K Mart a couple months ago. I purchased a couple of shirts in there...They carry a wide selection of 3XL size shirts which is what I Need. Especially since they often shrink. Stores that carry only S - XL really piss me off. Most men above the age of 20 wear 2XL or 3XL these days. 2XLT is another size that retailers don't carry often enough.

K Mart's Electronics department looked horrid when I was in there. Outside of that, it was nice walking around in there on a weekday afternoon...Less than 20 or 30 other customers in the store. Nice and quiet. Walked right up to a register...I liked it.

Sears has nothing for me...I think I belt a Dockers Brand Belt in Sears a couple years ago.

We did purchase a Lawn Mower from a Sears Outlet Store 2 years ago. I didn't mow my lawn at all this year...We paid a lawncare company $55 every 2 weeks to do it for us. They trim better than I do, and my allergies are too bad to be mowing the lawn. I got tired of sneezing all the time and stopping to blow my nose 5 times while cutting the grass.

the Craftsman brand tools are available at many locations now, and it looks like Sears has put the line up for sale as well as the Kennmore brand

Craftsman is not as good as they used to be. Alot of their tools no longer have the lifetime guarantee/warranty either. I've switched to Kobalt for alot of my tools.

I work as a rep and they send me into Sears stores in the NYC/lLong Island area. In my past 6 years they have closed about 10 hometown/full line stores. In the next year I believe they'll be closing another two or three stores in my area. They are doing a combination of not renewing leases and selling off properties that they own. Couple of stores seem to be doing well in the appliance department but I've definitely seen the shift towards selling online. I'm not going to bet money on it but they still be around for the next 5 years, but there will definitely be more store closings. The interesting thing is in the electronics department now they have Kenmore and Kenmore elite flatscreen TVs. I'm not quite sure who actually makes them.

Sears has always had an identity problem.
It's always been viewed as your parents department store.
Having Arnold Palmer as a spokesperson solidified itself as an "old peoples store".
A stigma that I don't believe will ever allow it to reinvent itself under the Sears banner.
Now that Arnie is gone, Sears won't be far behind.

KMart has been gone for years here in Canada they sold out to the Hudson Bay Company division Zellers who eventually sold to Target who aren't here anymore.

Sears has been on thin ice too they closed a bunch of stores across the country they have many more pickup locations now than they do stores across the country

At the end of the day it's compete or die. I was surprised that Sears didn't compete better they were doing catalogue sales for years you'd think the switch to online would have been a natural

Maybe they can use the old Roebuck name .. :)

A long time Kmart store near me turned into some sears/Kmart hybrid store several years back. My wife and I stopped in around Christmas. Place was dead. I looked for a few things that I needed and they had none of them. There were a few sears appliances, a lands end 'store ' in there. Small amount of shoes. Small amount of clothes. No tools. Some 'bargain' stuff. I can't imagine who they were trying to appeal to.
We left, never went back, and it closed in under a year.

the sears at our mall closed this past april.
They did $6m in sales at that store in 2015.
In 2008 they did $26m.

Yep, no wonder they closed.

And I'd expect a lot more retail to head that way. Adapt or die...and adapt isn't easy for an older store..employees are hard to get to change.

Amazon is working on same day delivery in many markets. That is change. Adaptation.

But the entire company has been founded and built on that concept, all the employees buy into it, expect it.

people have gotten bigger, it actually is a little bit evolutionary people even 50 years ago were smaller

Yup.

Has anyone noticed all the "Hoopla" with the modeling industry moving to "plus size models". Lots of people are hooraying about it. I think it's pretty cool! I prefer women to have big butts...I can't lie about it. All of you can't deny...:cheers::cheers: that sometimes you just get SPRUNG :laugh::laugh:

No seriously...the stick figure model being the "in thing" is coming to an end whether the modeling industry and ad execs like it or not.

Penney's did the same thing - I remember 20, 30 years ago seeing JCPenney Catalog Centers in other stores, drug stores, etc. A kiosk type thing.

I've not heard word one about the JCPenney catalog in a decade or more.

You'd think they or sears or others would have been able to move that to a website and with local store, national distrubution kick the butt of anyone tryng to compete.

but alas, no.

JCWhitney was another one that died off - yet you now have RockAuto that I've used and wow, i'll use them again., Cheaper prices, better product than autozone/advance and I ordered friday and had the parts monday.

Yeah, Amazon is moving all of their FLEX Markets to 3 hour blocks from 4 hour blocks. Intead of paying people $72 for a 4 hour shift to deliver their packages, they will now pay people $54 for a 3 hour shift to deliver the same amount of packages!

"The good news is that you will be able to work more blocks in a day!!!"

The SPIN these companies put on their decisions that favor themselves is laughable.

I responded that the decision was pointless to most of us as many can't even get 1 shift a week...let alone multiple shifts in a day!

All part of their master plan to bring their delivery costs down to a minimum.

Of course they are using USPS for The holiday season since they got a contract set at $2 per package with USPS regardless of the size...and if the package is reported missing, it's on USPS, not Amazon. ...After the season, Amazon will go back to using flex again I bet, and at lower wages. Only the desperate will continue to do it because well...they need the money.

I also thought it was interesting that the Amazon Ad for warehouse workers this season was only ran for 1 week, and they were offering less pay than last year....quite peculiar.

Either way it's still $18/hr....Now that's not necessarily good money when you consider fuel and wear and tear on the vehicle but none the less $18/hr

If you have to deliver the same amount of packages in that time they are expanding efficiency because it either wasn't at the maximum or you can't do it in the time alloted

Not Really...A lot of drivers are reporting waiting longer to actually leave the warehouse with their packages for some unknown reasons. 45 minutes to an hour. On top of that, the amount of packages have not been decreased. 3 hour blocks but still expected to deliver 45 - 80 packages...at least since they introduced the 1 hour cut the other day. you are expected to deliver packages regardless of how long it takes you. However, you can mark packages "undeliverable" and return to the warehouse if you don't feel like delivering the packages if you go over your 3 hour time frame...BUT, doing so may reflect on your ability to get offered or scheduled shifts in the future. ...So it's in your best interest to deliver all the packages even though it could take you 5 hours if they gave you more packages than is realistically feasible to deliver in the 3 hour time block.

I haven't been able to pick up a block since October. They re directed over 80% of their packages to the USPS, so shifts are slim pickings. They have drivers tapping on the "offers" section of the app constantly through out the day in hopes of picking up a available shift as soon as it pops up...LOL. ...I heard people are spending HOURS a day refreshing their app hitting the offers button every second until they can get a shift.

That is hardcore spending that much time just for a chance to earn $54. ...Money is hard to come by these days with a lot of people out there.
