So I am up late doing some training for the weekend and I wanted to know what’s available I9 laptops. And this beast of a machine came up. My old I7 is really fast and my newer I7 from last year is way faster than that one. Now I am trying to figure out how fast this beast is. Maybe it will answer the question before I ask. Wow. Even looking at the price I paid $3600 (sale price) for my first Gateway desktop for MBs. Boy we have come a long long way.

For that price they should give you a lot of free s*** besides free shipping. I wonder how many people will buy that laptop at that price? Certainly not me. For that price it should wipe my azz too among other things.

Mix that is because you know nothing about computers and what is in that machine. Second reason is you would never need something like that because well you just don't. What that comes with it is about the right price.

Jimmy I can't afford that laptop. So it wouldn't make sense for me to buy that laptop and can't pay my bills that need to be paid. This is one time I agree with you. I don't believe I said that. I must be getting a little soft at my age.

Most won't ever need a laptop this powerful now except if you are a serious gamer or generating some serious content. It is however a peak at what coming in the future. But it is also a bargain went you look at what's inside it and many features didn't exist or wasn't remotely affordable just a few years ago. Anyone like myself who brought a computer in the early 1990's paid very close to that price. Today you only buy you need, back then you didn't have too many choices.

The top of the line laptops that were for sale back in 2014 are still strong laptops today. Same with computers. I'm not sure there is even a need for the highest requirement games out there today for a brand new Laptop. ...I feel the top of the line laptop or desktop that was available in 2014 can handle anything as of current....So no, I don't think in 4 years this particular laptop will be "OLD".

However, I think other technologies will be introduced over the next 4 years that this laptop won't be able to offer. ...Age of Augmentation is taking form...But in terms of regular program handling, and even video games...this $4,999 laptop will run things just fine in 4 years.

One thing is for sure. You won't ever need a laptop with this power to be able to DJ, and play music on DJ programs. Even video/karaoke playback...middle of the road laptops that have been around the past 4 years can handle that task fine. ....So what will be the need of even more speed, storage space, and power moving forward as it relates to our profession????

Actually my Toshiba laptop from 2009 with a CORE 2 DUO T9550 2.66GHZ processor & 4 GB of ram/Vista will run VDJ with music-Videos no problem after I converted all video to mp4s. VODs were slow in loading, once converted to MP4s that went away and gave me a ton of more storage space. It's still my second backup & I used in June as I needed the SVHS out. But I am not sure what would happen if I used all the features available in VDJ. My Toshiba laptop from 2007 a Core 2 DUO @ 2.0GHZ 2GB ram with VDJ will play videos but maxed out CPU usage at loading & mixing. Now editing, encoding converting with these machines would take a eternity. These were some of the fastest/affordable processors available back then but it amazing what they can do even years later.

A desktop with that much power would be more valuable to me. Funny that gamers use the most expensive computers. It seems that playing games all the time would prohibit one from making money!

The obsessed most avid gamers don't care about making money with their laptops.

With that said, and I could be wrong about this...I feel that the video game world has shrunk in recent years. I don't see teenagers, and young adults playing video games nearly as much as they were 10 years ago. Many of my friends were gamers back in the day, and all of them have grown out of it...Of course we are all in our 30s now.

...Well not all of them. My younger brother still plays video games and owns all the consoles, but he told me he hardly goes on his Xbox systems or his PS4 any more. He plays Nintendo Switch the most these days. He also only plays games maybe for 1 hour every 3 days. 2 Years ago he would stay up all night playing 1st person shooter games online. He could play 6 hours no problem until 4:30 a.m. ...He doesn't do that any more though.

Also, my 9 year old son isn't that into video games, and neither are his friends. I think the popularity of video games are on decline in recent years. You can also tell that video game companies are putting less games out than years ago. They seem to put more money into making quality games for customers, and spend more time making them today as well though. The graphics on these games are UNREAL last few years. Almost like real life in very high definition. I don't even know how they measure graphics any more. Measuring graphics in "bit" terms went out the window years ago...I thought 64 bit, and 128 bit was awesome back in the day, and now a PS2 or Nintendo 64, or Nintendo Cube or even the Wii don't hold a candle to what these systems and computers can handle today.

Never was a computer gamer myself... never graduated beyond Solitaire.[emoji1] Having a single powerful (and expensive) computer is fine. Having a very powerful laptop computer that will do EVERYTHING is probably better than having a powerful desktop that does everything, because you can move it around with you. My most powerful computer is the desktop PC in my office. The benefit to having it in my office is that I can connect big dual monitors to it, nice speakers, and anything else I choose to attach to it. The down side to having it in my office is that I have to get up and go sit in the office at my desk to use it. So I have other computers around the house that allow me to perform whatever computer functions I want to perform. All told, the amount of computer power I have far exceeds that of the i9 laptop, it’s just spread over many computers. Still less expensive than the i9 laptop, even with having to buy multiple licenses of software. The other advantage to not putting all your eggs in one basket (laptop) is obvious... you’re not SOL when it breaks.[emoji4]

In reality, yes it will be old. 4 year old technology is old - and while top of the line laptops from 2014 are still strong, they're not top of the line anymore - they're old by today's standards. How do you come to the conclusion that 4 year old speakers are old - but somehow 4 year old computers are not? The electronics in computers change alot faster than they do in speakers.

Actually...With many speaker manufacturers, their top of the line speakers are AT LEAST 4 years old today. However, they are still being sold as brand new.

I am fairly certain RCF and FBT's best speakers are roughly 4 years old. Same goes with Yamaha, and JBL I believe as well.

Bose F1s are 3 years old now...If you consider their Model II their cream of the crop, that is even older. EV's current line ups have been around 3 to 4 years.

So are most of today's best speakers out there "OLD" now?

Computers will keep evolving, but if you don't have a NEED for a $4999 Laptop today, then why buy it? Wouldn't it be more prudent to wait for the price to come down significantly, and wait for software needs to catch up to the Hardware?

If you bought a brand new Ferrari in 2014, kept it garage kept, and always cleaned and waxed, and still driving it around today...would anyone look at that car and say "That car is OLD" ...

Don't know about FBT, but RCF rolled most of their lower and midrange products in the past year.

I agree on the laptop .. if you don't need the "best of the best", don't buy it, as they are typically niche models. At the same time, I caution folks on buying the "least of the better" just to save money, as they don't typically wither the changes that a "better of the best" will.

I'm going off some of the forum logic that speakers need to be changed every 5 years because they're old. That's a 1 year difference. My personal logic is buy once, cry once - and if it ain't broke, don't fix it. If you wait for something new to come down in value, then it's not new anymore - which is why the value has gone down. Additionally, the MFR of this device will most likely not be making this machine in 4 years, as they will have moved on to something bigger and badder - which means you'd most likely be buying used. Would you currently buy an iPhone 5?

Exotic cars - (or exotic, high performance, collector pieces, etc) are a different discussion - and believe it or not, I have heard people (in person) look at a $330k Murcielago and complain that the car still had factory wheels - so yes, someone will complain about it being 'old'. Also, an 'old' exotic car is still extremely expensive. The price has dropped .. but not significantly.

For what you'd spend on a used exotic (unless you wanted that specific one), you'd be wiser to spend that little extra bit to get something new, especially when it comes to computers.
