Reworking My Large System

Still not true.

;)

Pretty hard to say what the next project will be, but the tabletop is FINISHED!!![emoji4] It works better than I even expected. It’s also pretty versatile. I can use regular mouse an mouse pad if I want. I wish I had done this MUCH sooner...

This system isn’t perfect, and there ARE a couple of things I would do differently, but some can’t be undone, so I’m kinda stuck.[emoji1] it’s still a pretty darn good system though. I’ll almost for sure be purchasing a 29” Ultra Widescreen monitor to replace the dual monitors, and I’ve come across a much better monitor stand than the one I built, so those things are gonna happen at some point, but for now I’ll just enjoy it.[emoji4] I’m in discussion with a prospect about an event in September, so if that pans out, I’ll get a chance to actually use this system.[emoji4] Otherwise I got nothin’ until October.

How tall is that front board system?

... Can the audience see anything other than the top of your head (nice hair BTW)?

The Floating Facade is 45 inches tall, but it does not sit on the floor. It attaches to the bottom of the rack... about 6 inches above the floor; sits in a little trough...

...so total height is about 51 inches. My monitors extend about 5 inches higher than the top of the Floating Facade, so total of about 56 inches. I'm about 6 feet tall, so 16 inches of me can be seen by the audience...

... unless I choose to show them more.

Thanks for the 411!

The pictures made that facade look much larger!

BTW, DUCK!

Since we all seem to be competing to see who’s the CRAZIEST DJ on this forum, here’s my submission.[emoji4]... When hooking up my Large System in my office to check out the new tabletop, I got all my cables connected, but a single USB cable on my patch panel (connecting the controller to the Nano computer) was a two foot white cable. The USB ports (controller and computer) on the rear patch panel are side-by-side, so two feet is excessive, AND all the other cables are black. SO.... I ordered a pack of black, 1 ft. USB cables, and used one to replace the white USB cable. If that’s not CRAZY enough, I could actually afford to PAY for my cables.[emoji1] It doesn’t end there... I only had a short GRAY RCA cable to hook up my AKAI AMX to my Alto ZMX52 mixer, so I ordered some black ones. I’m able to pay for those too, but they haven’t come yet, so I’m living with the gray cable for now.[emoji4]

Yes...it IS a very good system. It looks darn near perfect to me! Will it, in your mind, ever be "good enough"?:pillworried:Hope not as I enjoy the updates!

If I could start over again on this system, there ARE a few things I’d do differently (better). Not that I’m gonna start over, ‘cause some of the things I’d do better can’t be undone, so I’d need a new rack, and that’s highly unlikely to happen.[emoji4]

The one thing I like the least, though, is the fold-down keyboard shelf. It works, but it sticks out too far and blocks my view of the Denon mixer just below, so I have to kneel down when I need to do anything with the mixer. I spent WAY too much time on that shelf and I realize now that it could have been done better, with less work.

The retractable wireless mic antenna contraption is another thing I might do differently, but it’s a little more complicated because it’s also the attachment point for the Floating Facade, and that part of it is darn near perfect. However, I could have simply mounted the antennas on the top of the rack just behind the top opening. They fold down so the cover would not have interfered with them. Not sure why I didn’t do that from the git-go??[emoji1]

Had I made the tabletop first, it may have changed my approach to a couple of the other mods. No regrets though. I’m still pretty happy with it overall.[emoji4]

So .. when are you starting over?

I dunno... Depends on when yer gonna sell me another SKB R104 Roto Rack.[emoji1]
Well, no more Rotos, but I have a SKB Gig Rig ( https://www.sweetwater.com/store/detail/GigRig--skb-gig-rig ) in decent shape, an OSP 12x4 ( OSP 4 Space ATA Mixer Amp Rack Road Case /Slant Top 12u Mixer Mounting 759681009498 | eBay - (https://www.ebay.com/itm/OSP-4-Space-ATA-Mixer-Amp-Rack-Road-Case-Slant-Top-12u-Mixer-Mounting-/321273681235) ) unused, and a SKB 10U rack case ... any tickle your fancy ??? :)

I DO like having my fancy tickled!!![emoji1]... But NO... would need to be a Roto Rack to sit atop the 6U rolling base rack.[emoji4]

Well, no more Rotos, but...

Speaking of the Roto’s though, have you seen the latest version of the R104???...

... They put a rear panel with wheels and a handle on the bottom of it. It also has 4U rails on the back, which is good, but not sure why they didn’t put 6U rails in the back. I wanted to modify the back of mine to add rails, but it would have made the opening too large for the rear cover panel, so I just mounted my rear panel gear on rails and attached to the inside of the rack...

It works, but in order to change anything, EVERYTHING has to come out first, which is a total PITA.
