I'm 76 and have 19 events on the books for this year.

I'm 65 and have got 24 events book for this year 19 of them are car events ( nice and easy ). If I'm right like you this is only part time for me and not doing schools or later weddings Friday and Saturday night I can sit home with a drink and watch tv

Steve went through a double-ender (colonoscopy and panendoscopy) yesterday, so I've been out of commission. And I only admonish and berate those here that deserve it .. usually.
Wow! Hope all is OK!! I can tell you this, the Techs/Nurses/Docters you dealt with scrubbed AFTER one of those procedures.

I've been doing fewer gigs over the last few years. Doing a wedding is like getting paid for enduring back pain for 10 hours. I might take a few weddings that are 5 hours or less and I'll do other events that are shorter hours.

I'm fine .. the prep wasn't so great.

Next time - try chicken soup and tea before the prep. :)
The prep/cleanse day was all just broth, tea, ice pops and Gatorade.

It was those bottles of Magnesium Citrate and the Dulcolax that did me in.

Not to get too gross, or TMI, but you mentioned something a friend and I recently talked about. He is a real big guy (Fat) and loves to eat. He probably weighed over 475 lbs when this happened about 7 years ago. He weighs about 390 lbs now. He had to go to the hospital because he simply could not go #2, and it had been like 9 days, and he felt really bad. Doctor came in and told him his intestine were compacted, and totally full of $hit! The Doctor wanted to try something before deciding on surgery. So they made him take an Enema, and then drink 5 large glasses with Magnesium Citrate in it. The Doctor told him he had to wait as long as he could possibly wait before heading to the bathroom so they can clear as much as possible out of his body as he could.

He was in pain after about 90 minutes. He could tell he needed to go. They made him wait longer. He waited until close to the 5 hour mark and he could not wait any longer. They got him to the bathroom and he exploded. It all came out like a constant waterfall of of crap. He filled the toilet bowl up. He had to call a Nurse to so they can see he in fact pooped. The Nurse was grossed out, but flushed the toilet. It actually overflowed the toilet bowl, and they had to call a janitor in to clean the floor.

He said it was the most satisfying, sensational relieving poop he ever took. ....

Thought I'd share that crappy story. Hope it never happens to me!

What is funny is I was out doing a karaoke event with my son, he was laughing about how slowly I typed searches into the computer. He didn’t call me old, just slow. But yes I don’t have stamina I did when I was 16. At 59 and 45 years in the business I can really feel each event now and recovering from takes much longer. So I give myself more travel time & setup/breakdown time.

I second the idea of having a assistant, luckily I have two kids which like going to events and don’t think I should be working alone. Thinking back for first 5 years in business I never worked alone. A combination of heavy equipment & records you really didn’t do stuff alone. For about 10+ years used my older stuff to setup & supply equipment to couple of DJs. When I didn’t have my own event I would handle it, usually I’d stay as I was always fed. I would checkout the other DJs in the venue too. But find dependable people is hard, why I don’t know, getting paid eat and attend a party, wow tough work. The kicker is after using the equipment for years, then letting other DJs use the crap out of it, I still manage to get money for the stuff. What I will say is back in the 80’s & 90’s the Peavey stuff I had really held up, amazing

The Plan now is to keep going after events which age isn’t a factor. I am still at the colleges but I don’t even discuss DJing with them anymore except for maybe the alumni association event. Rather I promote all my other events.
