I happened to jump on Reverb last week, and I searched up Yamaha DBR Speakers. I came across this used speaker at a local music equipment store I have only been to once before many years ago. It's called Bill's Music. They had a DEAL on this speaker, so I made the decision to drive over there...not that far, about a 23 minute drive. The story is they had it in use for about 2 years in their guitar room. It was being used as a demo unit. I couldn't pass up the deal as they had it marked to sell at only $200. Considering new these sell for $499.

Tonight I spent about 20 minutes restoring the cabinet. I used a heat gun to melt the plastic a bit on the white spots then I used Car detail grade black plastic restore on it!

Before and After pics!

Deep Glossy Black Finish. Looks WAY BETTER!

I am going to A/B this speaker against one of my Alto TS312, and maybe make a shootout video. Who knows, Maybe I will buy another one, sell my Altos and switch back to Yamaha after using Altos for the last 11 years! Go back to my Yamaha routes!

Great job. There is very little comparison between Yamaha and anything really the sound and power are incredible. If the specs are close Yamaha will win

I plan to do the speaker shootout video tomorrow or Sunday if tomorrow doesn't work out. Looking forward to it. Haven't done a gear video in a long time!

I already purchased another brand new Yamaha DBR 12 to go along with this one. Just need to purchase speaker covers before I start using them. In 2025, I plan to have a liquidation sale of any gear I won't be using moving forward. I want to reduce my gear inventory by at least 1/3 in 2025. Selling my wired up lights was the start of this process.

I sold about 80% of my gear in the last few months, I only have two sets of speakers left Yamaha DXL column array set and Yamaha DXR 12’s for when I need more throw, sold all lighting and replaced with 4 Ape Labs stick xl 2.0 and 4 of their cans 2.0 with their connect system, which can be controlled via phone app all battery powered with 11 hour full on capacity,
I am so impressed with the ape labs stuff and the Yamaha DXL set.

There always comes a time to where we realize we don't need so much stuff in our arsenal of gear. It gets to a point to where you are collecting it (or hoarding it) if you are not using it in some capacity. I figure as I continue to DJ and get older I will downsize in stages. 2025 will be stage 1. Maybe in 2031 or so will be stage 2 where I downsize my inventory even more perhaps another 1/3, and then if I'm still in the game when I'm older there will be a stage 3 where I probably will go bare bones and only have enough equipment that I can fit it in the corner of my house or a closet. Stage 3 would happen after I know I am no longer facilitating 3 system set up weddings, and just doing single sound set up events.

4 Ape Labs stick xl 2.0

I got to find somewhere I can see these live I hear people raving about them but the videos I have seen just aren't impressing me

They look great are very discrete and simple to use with the phone app not inexpensive I have around $2500 in 8 lights the connect and some accessories they were amazingly helpful when I called with questions and helped me put a package together that accomplishes my goal

Here is my Speaker Shootout video. After I shot the video, I realized that my phone is near full on storage. So I believe it shot my videos in this weird smaller video format. I had already tore my speakers down and put them back in my Traverse so I'm not re shooting the video. Strange because it was still 2.38 GB large video at 1080P. Oh well, sound quality is still the same. If you don't want to hear me talk about the mixer section and blabber a bit, just go to 7:30 into the video. There are 4 different songs I used to get a wide perspective of how they sound with different types of music.

My son chose the first song because it has deep bass in it, and he loves Mustangs lol
