Hello Guys,

I have CDN88 that is starting to cause me some problems, not reading the discs properly, skipping or not reading at all. My experience with NuMark is that the tray goes out of alignment and needs to be replaced.

Some repair people have told me that those trays are tricky to be accessed, so they charge me about $150.00 per tray, in my case both trays are failing.

I recently sent a CDmix1 and changed One side, they charged me 150 plus shipping, total about 190, the unit cost like 250 brand new, so needless is to say, that is the last time that's going out to see the dentist.

Does any one here know of any other solution? I've changed tone arms, faders, pitch controls, minor stuff like that, but would not want to venture into "tricky" things like the trays.

Your comments...suggestions, advice, questions, experience will be greatly appreciated.:sqconfused:

Not really much advice, but for what its worth, have you considered Slot loading type players? No trays to worry about, completely eliminate the problem altogether, one less thing to be bumped or mis-aligned.

Have you tried talking to Numark altogether about the issue, maybe get a little angry with them.

I have a cdn 25 that I bought refurb for beach weddings. Used it one time and now one side won't read the disc. It only had 30 days on it since it was a refurb. That's what I get for being cheap.

So far for me it seems like unless I can fix it myself, you are better off buying a new one. To have them fixed in the long run is atleast half of what the player costs.

That player is sitting here looking at me. I am going to take it apart and see if I can fix it. I have fixed another one with reading issues it was tiny piece of duct tape that some how got onto the laser lens.

If you are going to have to replace it anyway and there are no warranties on it, might want to get the screw driver and tweezers out. Sometimes it is something simple, you may get lucky.

Hi Carolyn;

This one I even have the original box, it' out of warranty but in all honesty It hasnt had much play...:sqerr:

I will wait for a little to see if I can find a fix for it, that doesnt leave me blind out of one eye. Like Bounce says I will call NuMark. The only thing is that they have a list of people they use, and these people think they're it, so they put a premium, to their services, when in reality there are a lot of other electronic shops that can perform the same thing without that premium..

Since is their top of the line CD (it was when i bought it four years ago) and has lots of great features, I don't want to make matters worse...

Thanks for the feedback and your comments...

I bought a used CDN25 dual CD player that since the day I got it, won't turn on.....

Rig,

If the drawer opens and closes correctly it is not a timing problem. It is very easy to clean the laser lense with denatured alcohol or acetone and a very soft Q-tip (use the Q-tips with a paper stick not the plastic jobs) If this doesn't correct your problem it may be alignment and that gets into a little more serious work but if you are careful you can do this as well.

Baring a bad lense or controler problem one of the above should take care of your problem. even replacing the laser is not that difficult of a problem.

Try switching the cables on the controller to see if there is a problem there first before pulling the unit down. if the problem switches to the other side when the cables are switched then you will have narrowed the problem down considerably.

Brother Miller:

These are the symthoms:
Tray 1:
while the song is playing you hear a sampling noise at times, or it goes into a miniloop sound like.

Tray 2:
Does not rread disc at all and says "no disc" on the display, or at times it get's "stuck" and it's hard to get it to stop and open up again,

I've used several cleaners including an air blower but it continues to fail.

Thank you:sqconfused:

Has the unit been dropped by any chance it sounds as if both lasers are out of alignment tray 2 being worse than 1. Tray two is not picking up and the reason it won't open is it is continuing to try and read.

It is strange that both would go out at the same time.

Tray one had given me a little bit of trouble, but with the blower, would get fixed... that was like that, but with tray 2 is the one that's bad now, which was my 'good side'..

It is quite possible that it had been dropped and I was not told.

I am afraid to chance it

They were prompt, and good to work with.

Definately my recommendation.

thank you @Ken!!

For a $280 repair bill, isnt' it worth thinking about replacing the thing? I just bought a refurbed CDN90 from a guy on one of the other dj boards for $400 and LOVE the thing. If it died - I'm not gonna spend 75% of what I paid to fix it - I'm gonna buy another or maybe use that to move up to the CDN95 or Dennon 9000

This is exactly what I did. I had a CDN90 for 3 years. (Man do I regret selling it). But I went to a Denon 9000. The CDN 90 never gave a problem and it was tough and reliable for 3 good years. The 9000 gives you the option to swap the draws out if needed.
