So I have just finished composing a 20minute soundtrack that will accompany our city's fireworks display on July 4. They have now asked me record a voiceover that will introduce the fireworks and have a short statement about how its the county's birthday, blah blah blah. What do you think the best way to do this is and make it sound good. I'm thinking that finding a way to use a professional mic would definitely sound better than a computer mic. I have a Peavey PV8 mixer, a Numark CD Mis, and then an Imic adapter that has the 3.5mm input/output on it. Can I make something work or do I need to venture outward?
If I have to, I have some videographer friends that are always blogging, etc that I could probably reach out to.

I do voiceovers if you're interested. If it's not a major production and no writing for it job I do them for free for members here. I have a home studio and access to the one at work also it's high quality stuff

That's awesome, I might take you up on that. It's a simple intro to the fireworks display explaining the county's bicentennial. The city is working on what they want said and will forward it to me. I will let you know. I'd still be interested in what I need to do it myself just in case.

No problem just let me know. It's usually a pretty quick turnaround during the week not so quick on the weekends

First you would need software to record it Audacity would do the trick.

If you are not using a sound card hook up your mixer to the laptop like you normally would and run the outputs to the mic line you should be good to go just watch your levels

at Live work my Voice is good for things like voiceovers

but recording them in a studio or ones that are pre-recorded I suck at

so I get others to do mine and they sound better LOL

I use Audacity regularly so I'm familiar with it. However, you lost me on the hookup part. I come out of my laptop when DJing with my headphone jack into the RCA inputs on my mixer. From the mixer I usually go out with the XLRs to my speakers. My Mic has the headphone jacks on it and can be used for Line/Mic and In/Out.

Not the best way to feed your mixer. I recommend grabbing a USB sound interface like this and using your pro DJ mic to record into Audacity.

I'd start out with audio interface that has phantom power. Add a low cost condenser mic that requires phantom power.

Google

MXL 990 Condenser Microphone with Shockmount

Both are great advice and the MXL is a nice mic but I don't think he's looking to spend to get this done

Go from your outputs directly in to your mic jack
