what makes the EV RE2 mic so nice
You get to buy them from Kat and Jenny.

I actually have no idea but sometimes you just have to trust people. I trust Ben's word on the mic so I bought one. It came in yesterday and my dog ate the box. Damn good thing he didn't get the case opened.:sqmad:

what makes the EV RE2 mic so nice compared to the Shure PGX with SM58 mic?
I'm gonna presume it's the difference in cost but Ben can tell you more. He's done the research on both models.

From what I understand, the RE2 utilizes modern technology in element design. The SM58 has not changed much since the 1960s. However, the SM58 is "the mic" that's recognized and welcomed by most professional vocalists and soundmen for live work.

The Senns make for great studio mics and professional recording but their extreme sensitivity is no-nonsense. What goes into a Senn is what comes out of it. They don't color nor warm vocal response. If a speaker or singer has a stuffy nose, you'll notice it with the Senns.

It's all in what you need to do I suppose. :)

Ok I will say this. The EV has traits of both described. No Nonsense. Sounds incredible but doesnt have the issues with turning it on. A simple on off. Also it doesnt mask your vocals or enhance it you have to EQ to your preference. The sound and clarity is excellent.

Two things that I really like about the EV RE2 is that it fits in your hand very comfortably, and it doesn't have as much noise while holding it as a lot of other mics I looked at. Some mics make noises when you hold it or move it around in your hand.

Ok i just got the EV RE2 microphone that I bought from DJ Bob.

Here are my first impressions.

Obviously i've never had a really professional level wireless mic before because when I first took it out of the packing box, my absolute first thought was "Wow! It's got it's own case!" ;)

After the initial giddyness from that wore off, I unpacked everything and was even more excited to learn that you can buy a separate belt pack for it so you can use a lavelier*sp?* and headset mic as well as the handheld that came with it.

The microphone felt a little lightweight to me, and like it would shatter into a million pieces if I accidentally dropped it, but that's probably caused i've never used a mic with an LCD display before. Other than that, it was idiot-proof to set up.

All I did was plug in an xlr cord, plugged the power cord in, turned it on and after putting a 9V battery in the handheld everything worked.

I didn't even have to set up a channel it just worked.. That was also a first time experience for me.

After playing with the microphone for half an hour, I was absolutely STUNNED at how clear and crisp everything was, to the point where it was actually performing better than any of the wired mics I had with me. Something tells me i'm going to have to get better microphones at some point in the near future. :sqembarrassed::sqerr:

I also love that there is no 'popping' kind of noise when you switch it on or off.

A mute switch would have been nice, but I can live without it.

The other thing i really love is the stress-relief plastic thingy that is on the back of the reciever as i have worn out the power cord from repeatedly unplugging the unit that my friend used when i was co-hosting for her company. *almost $40 to replace the power cord, i couldn't believe it*

All and all i am EXTREMELY happy with my purchase and would recommend it to anyone who asked me in a heartbeat.

take care all
