Hello everybody. I have been running dragon blade studios for a couple of years, and have not had a lot of luck getting jobs, and I am starting to think that the name is causing some of my issues. Would it be worthwhile to rebrand myself, or is this just the way things go?

Are you trying to get wedding DJ work? Let me see, brides, romance, elegance............and your name screams "I'm a gamer and need some money for my habit."
This is why I'm thinking of rebranding. I am trying to do weddings, and parties.

I will probably keep the dragon blade studios name for some production projects I have.

If you aren't getting the kind of work you desire it's probably a good idea. Do you have a website now? if you do redirect dragon blade to the new name whatever that may be so you don't lose any previous business

I started a thread years ago I can't remember if it was here or DJChat about naming your business and branding but the basis of it was make sure people know what you do. If I was booking a wedding and I seen Dragon Blade Studio and Joes DJ Service I would likely call Joes unless I knew you or your reputation or seen you before. DBS could be anything from videogames to a porn studio

It's the same with ending the name with events? What do you do? Planner? Caterer? Yes it sounds classier than DJ Service but on a quick look the pass by rate may be high

I notice one of your photos there is a sign A1 DJ services ever think of just using that? Ironically one of my registered business names is A1 DJ's also. I did it back in the day to get first listing in the Yellow Pages and other listings

Change your name 100%... nothing crazy... keep it simple... Signature Weddings & Production, or DJ "whatever your name is" with a tag line like Wedding & Event DJ. If you're looking for elegant and classy weddings and events, keep your branding in line with that. If you're more of general dj and don't want to seem too over the top, make your branding a little louder if you'd like.

I won't go into too much detail of your current brand, but there's nothing that says it's a dj service. I'd think it's a gaming company, a karate place, or something of that sort.

I agree. The first thought that came to my mind was Karate Place!

Do you have any experience performing for wedding clients?

As a former marketing guy,
I always found it tough to make a good radio commercial for a company with an "odd" name.
If you cannot tell what a business "does" just by hearing the name,
you're gonna have problems.
Unfortunately, "Dragon Blade" only has meaning to you.
Also unfortunately, the words "dragon" and "blade" are NOT the kind of words
that give a sense of confidence and comfort to potential brides.
(although it IS a great name for a production studio)

I use Gold Plated Productions, because it gives a sense of "not too fancy or expensive".
But when it came time to actually market myself (website, biz cards, etc)
I only used the name "DJ Mike Foxx."
The only place a client sees the company name is on my contract,

I've considered having/adding a second brand, but unsure if clients will get confused/annoyed at the second brand, or how to disguise it (want to try higher end just weddings). Same address and meeting space makes me concerned as to how to approach it.
