PSSL Has Closed Their Doors

They have moved around a bunch over the years. I have been to three different locations of theirs. Just about 2 years ago, they started moving into the Westminster location. It is a terrible spot that is right next to a freeway ramp that is undergoing a multi-year construction project. Even before the construction, you could only get to the location from one side of the street. I always thought the moves were odd and a sign of declining business and that this last location must have offered really cheap rent because its accessibility and now traffic was so bad.
They did largely catalog sales, and then as things moved online the declining value of a storefront would have prompted them to move. Commercial spaces operate on an accelerated lease - so the first 3-5 years of rent are significantly lower than what it levels out at after the ramp up period.

Just got the email for their going out of business sale. A lot of stuff looks like your typical liquidator got a hold of it - marked back up then 30% off, however, I did just pick up a Chauvet Gigbar Move for $560 out the door.

Just noticed this too. IMO that's sort of sales technique is lame. If you really are going out of business and are trying to liquidate your stock without taking a bath, don't try jacking up prices to give a fake percentage off. Simply adjust your percentage accordingly. I was looking at the ADJ FOG Fury Jett and it was $291 just last week. They now have it at $364 with "30%" off. Still a savings but nowhere near what it should be. I had asked Sweetwater to match the $291 last week and they said they would. I sent an email to PSSL just now to see if they would stand by the $291 minus the 30% off. If so, I'll pick up 2. We'll see if I even get a reply.

Noone from PSSL has been replying - even before they shut their doors. I actually wanted the Gigbar Move 2 weeks ago when they had it on sale for $600 something - tried calling since I wanted to expedite shipping and add in a few Mr. Kool IIs, no luck. Worked out better for me though - while I ended up paying for more the Mr. Kools on Amazon, I ended up getting the Gigbar move about another $100 cheaper than their sale price. Good luck getting a hold of someone there!

These days it is impossible to reach people by calling company phone lines. Nearly everyone with a desk job works from home. Not all phone systems will forward calls to external numbers. Therefore, you leave a voice mail if you can and then wait and hope someone will reply. Heck, I even have that problem with my own company because I have no idea who is in/out of the office on a given day.

Not only is it lame but it speaks to the character of the participants.

Dishonesty and disingenuousness always reek.

There was a time years ago when PSSL was my only answer for dj gear without a 4 or 5 hour drive. That catalog was all i had to even know how the industry was evolving ... that and a few issues of DJ TIMES....

An educated public is our best customer...but who's educating them?

We all play the same music, 'do the same thing' in their mind...some want more entertainment but most, well, don't know or care.

And while I do get repeat business, 90% is first time - weddings, school dances as the school personnel or parents change often - too often.

I do business with NSL - ever been there? talk about a challenge. Rent must be cheap though.
B&H has always been great.

I've not seen any permanent closures of venues here - yet. I've heard of one (from another venue owner) but it was a new(er) venue, 2 years old maybe.

I'm waiting for hotels/conference centers to start and collapse.

Same can be said for the DJ industry....:pillunhappy:

PSSL is back in business! Looks like they were acquired by Solotech, so expect some solid gear coming from them now! Stoked they have reopened their doors
