So I just got signed up for the silver package of Promo Only and downloaded the POOL software. This takes some getting used to over a couple of clicks and downloading an entire weekly album with prime cuts.
Does anyone know of any tips or tricks to easily navigate the software? I'm guessing they release daily and there is no way to download all the hit tracks automatically every so often?

OK... I’ll chime in... Uh.... Got nothin’.[emoji1] Never used Promo Only, so no experience navigating their software. So I can’t help you... sorry. I feel bad, but at least you know someone’s reading your thread... Nobody who can help, but somebody. Good luck.[emoji4]

They do daily releases and a monthly hits album, there is no auto DL option , its all manual DL .

I got the gold subscription from Promo Only at the beginning of January after being with PrimeCuts for the past 12 years. Promo Only isn't difficult, just a lot more music and options.

But the actual download is simple. Just click on the folder you want to download, the folder will open up in the center area with a download button. Click this button and it all happens. But before you download, go into the preferences to choose your download location.

In the preferences you have a choice to hide or show explicit songs or songs with a warning. Plus if you want to hide or show single releases.

Along with the monthly genre series, the silver has a weekly mixed genre, similar to Prime Cuts.

It will come pretty easy once you do a few downloads.

Adding to this, you can click on the main listing and that will download everything in that listing ( clean/dirty/ etc) , or click on the track like you said, and then in the lower window, you can choose which tracks you want .

Personally, I wish they would have the "Mainstream Top 20" and other genre top 20 lists archived for download later with only incremental updates as new songs break the top 20. (As of now you can only download the current one before it disappears with the next update.) That way you could just download songs that you might actually play and filter out the fluff. Maybe I'll shoot Jim an email about it.

I do like that downloads don't expire, I don't do as many gigs as I used to and I hit an inactive stretch in summer 2017 where I forgot to keep up on PrimeCuts downloads and now I'm missing a couple of weeks in my library.

EDIT: Whoops, this thread is a month+ old. Sorry!

10 years and Promo Only has not improved their download format/protocol/interface...WOW!

Disappointing.

Ok, Now I feel old.
I still get my promo only on cd, I get the 9 monthly disc, have been since 2001.
I have 2 copy's of the Radio Essentials 1-60 (I am in Canada), I think they were the Platinum series in the USA.
I also have there 1 to 115 Juke Box Set.

I have a CD-R set of the Platinum series that I bought from the former president of ETV network that he had listed on Ebay. Evidently they continued supplying sets/replacements to existing subscribers under the radar using disc duplicators after the copyright shakeup and this was one of those leftover sets (ETV partnered with PO on that release).

I also inherited a homemade CDR copy of Radio Essentials from a DJ that sold his whole collection to me on Craigslist back when I was starting to DJ and building a library. Emptied his garage into my car for $500. Still have discs from that lot I never ripped... he also had DJ Tools and other similar stuff in there.

I'm sure there are ethical/legal implications, but I'm sure I have all of the tracks contained in those collections from legally-published albums/compilations, so I never felt bad about it.

When I get my Promo Only cd's each month I put all the song info into an excel spread sheet.
Then every four months I print of a set of books, I print them in group, all my top 40, and mainstream cd's in one set of books, My tropical Latin and Caribbean in another set of book. club cd's in there own set of books, and last country cd's get there own set. For each set of books I print one in white with songs listed A-Z and a yellow with artist A-Z.
I then Put my CD,s and Liner card In Case Logic CD Binders, each Binder for a set of discs. I have 15 binders (336 cd binders) full of cd's, FYI 3 case logic binders fit in 1 milk crate real nice.
so when I am at weddings I have a A-Z list for all my songs with out anyone looking through my cd's ( I don't like anyone going through My Cd's)

Over the years I have had a few new DJ's offer me money for a copy of my cd's to get them started, I have always turned them down.
If they want music, I let them know Promo Only gives a Good deal on back catalog CD's

I have a question
I know this is probably the wrong place.

I have all my music on cd. I use cd players.
I dj weddings, 99.9% of the people that I Dj for just want basic song mixes, one song stops the next song starts.
I know how to beat match and fade on a pair of 1200 MH 2's

I know what a laptop and a controller are, I know about Serato is, I know younger DJ's that that have digital players.
they can do some crazy mixes between 4 songs, great in a rave / club type setting.

My question is
Is there a controller or a DJ program that could be loaded onto a laptop and just have the same basic buttons look of my Numark 502 cd players?

As long as you understand play, pause and can drag / drop files into an area of the screen, then you can easily use a controller and software. You're essentially moving the 'controls' from one place to another and instead of loading physical cd's, you're loading media files (which load MUCH quicker).

As for controllers and software, they ALL can do the basic functions. If you want more functions / options, then the price goes up. Look at this more as a long term cost (much like your music library). If you have a setup for 10 years, the cost is minimal between a $500 controller and a $1000 controller. Over 10 years, it's $50 / year or $100 / year. While you save $50 a year by going cheaper, you generally get alot better gear for that extra $50 / year.

My main controller is the Numark NS6 (Numark has replaced it with the NS6ii). To be honest, though, I've started using my backup Mixtrack Pro more often because it's smaller and much easier to lug around to gigs. It's definitely on the cheap end, and it looks cheaper, but if you don't use advanced features like effects and samplers very often, it will do the job just fine. It will definitely replicate the functionality of your CD players. You can run a single mic through it, 1/4" unbalanced. I paid $199 for it brand new in 2011. The current production model is the Mixtrack Pro 3. I use Virtual DJ with both the NS6 and Mixtrack Pro. Virtual DJ is great for wedding DJs where playlist organization is more important than scratching, samplers, effects -- which are the focus of Traktor and Serato (in my opinion, although I have used neither of the latter heavily).

i initially retired from live djing in 2007... i had a club residency and was still using cds... when i "unretired" last year....i was highly intimidated by all the modern tech... but i gotta tell ya... once u take the plunge u will never look back....its not only "familiar" ...but its much easier...

The minute you trade in those milk crates of heavy cds for virtual crates on your laptop or a stand alone player...u will love it!

I was using denon 5000's at the time i retired...also had a pair of 2500s... now im using a Pioneer rx2 "Stand alone" controller...not a fan of laptops... my music files are on thumb drives....so i can carry an entire collection in my pocket...

So I was just watching the promo video on the RX2. When you search for your next song to play, do you just use the touch screen and type the name of the song there to pull it up?

Thats an option for sure... i organize all my music in folders... usually i have main folders like "Wedding 120" "Wedding 128" "Party 90" ....so i have these standard folders grouped by bpm for a wedding.... or for a party...

then i have the entire collection in folders based on decades...then genre...etc.... like i have a 90s folder...80s folder...etc....i also have Classic rock folder... slow songs folder.... dinner folder.... upbeat dinner folder.... teen party dinner folder..... soul music folder.... special wedding songs folder....etc

Then....for the specific party im doing... lets say a wedding... i have.... special song folder.... grand entrance folder.... dance requests folder... dinner requests folder...etc... so... when i begin that event...i use that cluster of folders as home base... now lets say dancing has began... and im burning through their requested songs... and im at 130 bpm....well i can jump over to my Wedding 130 folder which has all the songs in that bpm range that i know will usually work at weddings... i can play a few of those then pop back over to the specific event folder and grab some more of their must play requests and back and forth

but yeah...if someone comes up and says...hey...got any beach boys... i jump to search and by the time ive typed B..E..ive got beach boys listed and can play the track they need
