I got a letter from TMStudios indicating that their last-ever physical CD for PrimeCuts will be 8/29/2016 and their last monthly will be PM0916. (But, now that they offer FLAC files, I can live with it!)

Their download speeds are miserable, though; I need to send Jim Weisz an email about that -- its especially noticeable with the larger FLAC files.

I don't mind downloading since I subscribe to their monthly product. Maybe I should just get rid of all the CDs I have. Sure would clear out some room!

I'm going to start making periodic data disc backups of the FLAC files for sure. The physical backup is why I subscribed to discs in the first place. (I don't know anyone locally that still spins discs at gigs...)

I work for a large franchised multi-op and I get probably 5 or 6 PM cds from the company in the mail every month, I wonder how we're going to handle that?

So you pay for 5-6 separate subscriptions? If so, they should be happy to provide additional download logins to match your disc count.

I don't pay for it, but I'm assuming the multi-op does. I get 5-6 PM cds in the mail from the main multi-op office and I load the music onto the computers and put the CDs with each system. What I'm assuming is I'll get a single flash drive and load the music into the computers that way.

Ah, I see, I thought you were asking how Tmstudios would handle it.

I'm surprised the multi-op still uses discs for distribution in the first place. Maybe they want physical discs with each setup to document that the music is legally obtained?

Either way, if I was operating a multi-op I'd probably request download accounts for each of my employees/subcontractors, or use a Dropbox type account. Why pay for postage?

wow I remember using these in the early 90's at a radio station. Didn't know they were still around, but having a physical copy would be my preference in case of hard drive failures.

I was bummed to see they are going to stop sending me Cd's. To be fair , i haven't opened one of my discs in probably 3 months, i have actually been downloading the discs since you actually get more music in the download then they could fit onto the MP3 discs. But i have always liked having a physical backup primarily for legal reasons. I suppose now though i will just live without

Been receiving Top Hits MP3 for 4 or 5 years, prior to then it was standard CD. Download daily. When monthly MP3 arrives I make a audio copy of each of the internal discs; "T", "C", Jazz, Latin, Recurrents (RH, RC, RB, RA). Lots of work but I have all the music copied to CD which is truly my backup library--not to mention a copy of the MP3 Disc on my backup computer and external HD.

I rarely touch the cd's I get from them any more.

But I would like to see them carry the online stuff for a longer period then. I don't download every song. But I do occasionally go back and grab a song from a disc.
