Finally after around a 8 month layoff I got a job to do by myself today. I'm excited because it's been so long since doing an event where I was the DJ. The last event I did as the DJ was in February. Got to get ready to leave soon to get ready to do this event. The event is Noon to 6PM. It's going to be in Summit, NJ in a big parking lot at a church. I don't normally get excited about doing an event. Yet with such a big layoff it's going to feel good getting back in the saddle again. Got to get ready to load he van up and get to my partners house to get the speakers. When I get there I will need help getting the speakers on the stands and maybe a few minor things. I just had to make this thread before leaving. I just hope the next layoff isn't anywhere near this long.

I have one issue that we tried to fix yesterday. I was going to bring my tablet to use at the event if needed. Somehow yesterday we couldn't get the tablet or the phone to work with my controller for some reason. So I will just have to rely on my portable HDs. have a great day all and keep them dancing.

** Merged from 2nd thread **

First let me say I made a mistake and locked the keys in the van. So I got to wait to get unlocked. The good news is the event doesn't start until Noon. I'm going to try to get there at 10:30 to setup. I'm doing this one by myself.

It's been around 8 months since I DJed an event. I just hope it's not another 8 months or more before I get to do another event. Just wish me great skill. I'm at the event now and 2 issues. The facade won't stay up because of the wond and its tough seeing the screen on VDJ.

The fact that you arrive to events 90min in advance and I arrive 3hrs in advance for even a basic sound only package is telling. Secondly, you’re in Summit, one of the wealthiest areas in NJ, so I hope you’re dressed appropriately, your setup is nice and clean with all wires taped down. Many of my clients are from this area so you can’t say now that these people are cheap. These are the ones that spend 3-5k on me consistently. The reality is though, you’re gonna make a bad impression from the moment you walk in by having to ask others for help, when a professional would have the hired help necessary.

Hah!
At first, I thought you said "big PAYOFF".

P.S.
You should be excited about EVERY gig you do.
Even if you know it's gonna suck.

We'll be waiting for the pictures and video ..
This is another one of those events they don't allow pictures or video. I will say this. I'm super tired making this post. I had a great time. The facade wouldn't stay up because of the wind. The event went very well. 2 things ajd one 8s about doing outdoor events. It was difficult to see the screen on the laptop due to being outside in sun light. H9w to handle that? Also I need to buy longer power cords fot speakers. The cords worked but were being stretched. All in all I had a great time.

It was a diverse crowd so I played 2 songs by the Rolling Stones. Brown Sugar and It's only rock and roll.

The ODJT 2020 diversity award goes to Mix for playing 2 Rolling Stones songs in a 6 hour period!!

I've got 2 Kanye West songs, Gold Digger and Stronger, ready and waiting, in case I happen to have a diverse crowd 😄

If you KNEW you were playing outdoors, would you NOT anticipate there would be WIND? Would you NOT check the WEATHER FORECAST? Do you have ANY IDEA how simple it is to make a bracket to attach your facade to your table so it is not blown over by the wind? What if it had started raining? Were you prepared for that? Do you have ANY contingency plans (other than a backup controller that doesn’t work)?

There's a lot of white people at events I do. I can say my experience is not to start with the Stones as the go to music for them.
Personally, I love the Stones, but I'd have to be convinced the crowd was into classic rock before I play the Rolling Stones.
