Can't remember if it was here or another board but there was a discussion on how to pinspot tables. Last night I worked one where another company got the lighting portion and part of their job was to pinspot the center-pieces on the tables. The way they did it was to hang a t-bar from the wall hangers for the move-able wall sections. I believe I saw zip cord being run thru the channels for power. Here's a pic:

They used standard mirror ball pinspots (non-LED) to hit the centerpieces, then used a non-LED par46 to spotlight the cake. I wasn't present when the install was done but obviously somebody didn't aim the lights correctly. The lights hits the center of the table, usually at the base of the centerpieces. I wondered if the planner even noticed but I kept my mouth shut and made a mental note. Might come in handy down the road in better competing for future contracts. Thought you guys might like to see it.

That's a pretty cool idea.... how were they rigged could you tell?
I didn't take the time to look closely but, like I said, they tied the crossbar off to 2 of the metal hangers mounted in the wall channel. They were there at tear down and I'm assuming they were using the hotel's genie lift. Makes me curious how many of the hotels have lifts.

I dunno, the forum's called "DJ Lighting & Special Effects"? It's a valid service. Diversify or die.
So, if tomorrow, venues, photographers and caterers started offering music and MC services, you would be okay with that?

Non-diversified and still alive.

BTW, I doubt that the "DJ Lighting and Special Effects" forum had ambient lighting in mind. (and who looks at the sub forums?)

While we are at it, why not sell Cakes and Flowers! The DJ won't have to check and coordinate with other Vendors as he will be THE Only Vendor! :D

The only word coming up constantly in my mind is liability (Unfortunately things in the US have gotten out of hand down here you should see some of the rigging "Pros" use).

okay I cant hold back on this one. This isnt a photobooth. Your just setting up a backdrop, running a camera on tripod and running a printer to copy instantly. Similar process as a photobooth but its no different than many photographers already offer. Where is the booth? If there isnt one it isnt really a photo booth is it? True photo booths are enclosed for candid shots and can be ran by the guests and also have insystem cuts etc. What kind of printer are you using? Bubble Jet?

Jon, the "booth" has become a negative this year. Brides are wanting open-air. Don't ask me why. I just try to adapt to what's selling dates. Last night's gig was basic DJ service, 10 uplights (took me about 10 minutes to set) and Photobooth and it netted about what I usually make off a full DJ+Uplighting pkg and with tons less work.

Not trying to deflate the balloon. Its not a booth though lol. I would rename it to set it apart from the name if its a no go. Its not a photobooth and so why would you call it one especially if brides are wanting a portrait studio.
