I was MIA for 12 days on a western Caribbean cruise aboard the MSC Divina. I've been aboard this ship before, but on this trip I paid a little more attention to the sound systems.

If you have never cruised aboard a modern ocean liner, it is hard to understand the scale of these things. Huge - 3,500 passengers, 1,400 crew members - and there are ships larger than the Divina. At night there is music and entertainment, at multiple locations, all over the ship.

She was put into service in 2012, and it looks the sound systems were 100% RCF at that time. However, some of that original RCF equipment has been changed over the years to Yamaha and DB Technologies - not an Alto in sight.

The subwoofer in the Galaxy Disco used to be an RCF double 18", which frankly never impressed me. It was changed to a Fohhn PS-9, which I had never heard before. Let me tell you, with the exception of it's 230 pounds weight and it's 220 VAC power requirement, it was absolutely staggering! Surprisingly, they were discontinued by Fohhn, but are available on the used market for a meager $5K - and IMHO worth every cent if you need to crack concrete!

I'm really surprised there was no Alto ...
