I just got off the phone with my friend who nailed it. When he has done events like that, when they came to him he would just tell them to go see the client and let them make the decision. He said those 2 people didn't come back after that. That's a great way to do things. Put the ball in the clients court so you don't look bad.

Also, the client told the DJ that there will be no requests.
Sending people back to the client, so they can bug her about it....is no longer her job.
It's yours.
She hired the DJ and told the DJ what to do....SO SHE WOULDN'T HAVE TO DEAL WITH IT!

Take it easy Mike. Don't have a stri or heart attack over this.

I hear what you and Steve are saying and I disagree. It's their event and let them handle it. That way if they say no it doesn't make you look bad. That's my concern. At least that let's people know my hands are tied. I'm just following orders so the client isn't upset with me because I went over their head and did what I wanted to do.

Now if I don't agree with the client I shouldn't do the job.

Your job is not to make YOU look good....it's to make your client look good.
You don't throw them under the bus to save face.
If someone requests a song...tell them the client gave you a specific list,
and that you need to honor it.

2 totally different kinds of events sir and much more work to get ready to do the event we did then. I will make it my business just for you to take pictures at the event in May in AC just to show you what we can make it look like.

Your set up for a concert...in front of a large amount of people....looked like a homeless persons yard sale...selling used wire "as is"..... you arent fooling anyone on this board....

You have the right to agree with Steve all you want. I have the right to disagree and I do.
As they say" You don't have to agree with me .. I can't force you to be right".

Now that sounds much better that way. I was told anyhow everything is covered as far as that issue goes. People attending the event were told to not bother the DJ which we both don't have a problem with taking people's requests. So long as it's appropriate for the event.

Now like I said Mike I love the way you put it. That's great. That leaves people the option of what they want to do. Either leave it alone or talk to the client. Most will leave it alone. Especially if they are having a good time.

Everyone - this is really stupid - we're debating with him about an event that isn't even his. His partner is performing and the partner's gf booked and will be paid for it. Mix's only involvement is taking pictures. I'm willing to bet it's Mix's equipment that will be used though.

No sir. Reread what I said. This is a first for us. I'm wondering if the lady tells the people attending the event they can't make any request or how is that handled?
What’s it to you how it’s handled as far as the attendees getting the notification. Who cares. Concentrate on having the music that’s on the list, and play it. That’s your job. Your always trying to get involved in the planning process of someone else’s party, when you should be focusing any extra energy you have on your product.

I said it before and I'm going to say this caught me by surprise because this is my first time experiencing this. I was told the client took care of it and that is that. That ends it for us. Just get paid and let it be.
