What's with assuming he would easily beat me? Now to be fair it might be a toss up and the reason is it do on the music either one of us plays and who is listening to the music we played.
Who's assuming? Both of you have already streamed - and we (along with others) have already seen it. It ain't a toss up, not even close.

lol....Mix's stream reminded me of the hidden cam footage they used to have on CHEATERS... hidden in an alarm clock on the coffee table. At some weird angle... blurry picture...

Except... they werent caught cheating... it was just a couple sitting there listening to horrible music.

Now the crowd who comes to hear the DJ's play at the Handball Court don't want to hear a DJ playing the same old tired stuff they have heard a DJ play over and over and over again and again. That's the deep underground house music crowd. They are open and expect a DJ to play stuff that not every DJ has played.

Again....must be a N.J. thing...:pillwink:

crowds are used to hearing certain kinds of music or styles of music. Also it depends on your location that you're playing the music. Now I have plenty of music for a certain crowd that I would play for that certain crowd. Stuff that when I have to play I know that's a crowd that is used to a DJ only playing certain songs. Anything outside of that and they would be lost.

I love playing for that kind of crowd when I can. That other crowd bores me to death but it's not about me. It's about what the crowd wants. I just have to remember when it comes to what I call a boring crowd act like I'm having a good time playing that music.

I was plan on going live sometime today. Now I might play a bunch of stuff that a lot of DJs on here may not even heard of. Certain other crowds hearing that stuff may easily know that stuff and love it.
No assuming .. he already did .. his video beat yours .. boom .. done.

I'm getting ready to go back on now. I certainly would love to find out how to get on later to Mixcloud to check him out. I just hope things are better now and the kinks are worked out.

Since you said it, what is your definition of horrible music?

I’d advise applying for the PPP, that will cover your rent and utilities, as well as provide income... and it’s all forgiven.

I don't think you can do PPP and PUA...

The point with either one is it needs to cover what you would have been making

You can, just not both at the same time... I spoke with my accountant. You can retroactively apply for PUA for the weeks prior to getting your PPP. Once you get your PPP loan, for the next 8 weeks you write yourself checks. Afterwards, if business is still not open, go back on unemployment.

ya, at this rate, it don't think it makes much sense for the PPP...

My PUA should start in March.

It May not... unless you have employees. There's also rumor that they may make the EIDL the full 10k, even if you got approved for less the first round. SO between the EIDL and PUA you should be equally as good...without requirements. The EIDL though is 4 weeks behind right now (they prioritized the PPP).

I did explore this option and found that in my income bracket I only am approved for a $2000.00 loan of which 75% is forgiven, not all of it. So, would $1500.00 be helpful, yes. But it's not like a huge amount of money, it's not going to help me sustain for more than a couple of weeks.

I have also applied for Self-Employeed unemployment. Haven't received a response back from this yet.

In the meantime, I am so looking forward to later this year and 2021......I can hang on.

Oh and Mix, the music is horrible, the audio quality is horrible and camera work is horrible.

Depending on your state, unemployment may pay more. In NJ If you make under 75000, the PUA (unemployment for self employed) is better. You will get unemployment, at least the $600 guaranteed, but they are so backed up. NJ just started the first wave of applicants today.

I know a Solo Artist who plays Guitar at mostly bars. Has not worked a W2 job since 2017. Now, I do not know how much he declared on his tax returns, but he told me the Unemployment pay from federal government is only $150 per week for him. He was pulling any where from $400 to $900 a week depending on the shows he had lined up. Most bookings for him are any where from $100 to $300, and sometimes he books himself as part of a duo for $350 to $400 for the night which they split.

He is hurting pretty bad financially.

That doesn't make sense... the PUA gives $600 alone per week. I think he means the state pays $150 per week... but he should expect $600/week from the fed govt soon. He may have to certify separately for that though... every state is different, and it's possible that maryland doesnt have the PUA benefits set up yet. I also don't know how he reported his taxes... did he report a loss... did he have depreciating expenses from past years to lower his net profit... that may explain why he got such a low amount from the state. If he avg's $3000 per quarter after expenses, then yes... maryland will give him $150 a week. The max for Maryland is $430 to put it into perspective. NJ max state unemployment is $713 or 39 weeks, plus $600 for 13 weeks.

I am not sure. I would assume that he did not quality for Maryland's unemployment though because that is only set up for regular W-2 employees. NOT gig workers. He is a gig only worker. His last job was a Deli Manager at a store in 2017. He went full time with being a musician in like September of 2017, and 2018 was his first full year with no W-2 income.

Unless he is lying, then the $600 for unemployment for gig workers is actually an "Up to $600" and based on actual income.

Then again, my brother is being paid the full $600 from unemployment. He had a W-2 Job, then was out on disability from a injury. He is still waiting on disability pay, but ended up getting unemployment. He is making almost $900 a week in unemployment. Here I am working 40 hours a week, and earning a good bit less than he is on unemployment right now. ...And he has not worked since early January. I know someone else pulling in about $950 a week, just started getting their pay....took them over 4 weeks to see it. I kind of want to be unemployed, and join the club collecting more money than working right now. It's not gonna happen for me though unless I can screw up n something and get fired, or get sick, and I don't want to get sick.

LockDown Larry isn't letting Maryland open any time soon it looks like. He already stated he won't ease restrictions until new cases drop down for 14 days. Our new case count seems to be climbing for the most part. We had over 3,000 new cases since Friday. I expect for Maryland to be in shut down mode until at least June 1st at this point.

According to the MD unemployment site:

  • Federal Pandemic Unemployment Compensation (FPUC)
  • $600 per week on top of current regular UI benefits.
  • Effective March 29, 2020 through July 31, 2020 (last paid week ends Saturday, July 25, 2020).
I have a feeling he is either going to get it retroactively, or he was supposed to certify separately from regular unemployment... or hes giving you wrong info. Not sure.

The thing that bothered me about "14 days of declines in new cases" is that if they're actively seeking to increase testing... then there will never be a decline. I think it should have gone based on hospitalizations as that gives a much clearer indication of how bad things are. NJ has had a decline in hospitalizations since 4/14... clearly more than 2 weeks... however, with the increase in daily testing, that number is all over the place. One day we have a new record of daily cases, and the next we have a fraction of that record high.

just wanted to give you an update on my side.

I received PUA (not for nearly the amount I was hoping for). I will see what others locally here in CA get but my start date shows towards the end of April, not retroactively as I thought. It should have started in March as that is what I filled out... Maybe they are just behind, and it will catch up later.

it does show 39 weeks is the max you can claim, so if it doesn't retroactively go back, I am going to make sure I get most of that.

....and whose fault is that?

He is hurting pretty bad financially.
In a free market economy, when you DO NOT perform a function that is in demand and compensable, you hurt financially.

More unvetted anecdotal evidence:
I know a terrible chef, sloppy house painter, bowling alley pinsetter, video store clerk, and an elevator operator that hasn't worked a W2 job since (insert date here)"

Rather than honestly evaluate their skills and/or the market demand for same and then apply their abilities and skills to other productive employment, they just sit in some government provided space, collect unemployment and bitch about how hard it is to find work...THAT THEY WANT.
