Super bummed that one of DC's iconic nightlife spots is closing. But they are auctioning off all of their equipment, including sound and light. I've never bought anything from an auction site like this, but it's interesting to see.

I think Mix should bid on all those SRX728s and the STX835s ... Can never have too many.

Personally, I might like the A&H MixWizard and some bourbon. This had to be a quick decision with nearly 250+ bottles of Stoly vodka to sell ...

The announcement was certainly sudden. And most DC nightclubs have been closed since March. So yeah, I think they were still stocked as if it was 100% operational.

It looked like just the Stoly .. everything else was in quantities of 2-8 bottles .. they had like 9 cases of the Stoly.

Ross,

Do you know these people personally?

I wonder if they'd entertain an offer to buy all audio & effect lighting.

Unfortunately I don't. I know some DJs who have worked there. They might know ownership personally.

More a curiosity than anything.

I know a guy that buys such things in lots not by piecemeal and I was gonna send him their way and have him give you the lead.

DO you know how long that club was in business for? I remember a Iranian DJ I knew who was a part of the car club I used to be in who use to perform there back around 2002/2003/2004 I think. He would do their Latin night often.

I used to go to the clubs in DC way back in the early/mid 80s .. mostly in the Dupont Circle area of CT avenue. I had a friend working at the NSA back then and would visit a few times per year.

The place we're talking about is basically at the intersection of Connecticut and 18th. Right in the heart of the DuPont nightlife area.

DuPont used to really have a massive nightlife scene. But it appears to me that people are moving away to other parts of the city. I haven't worked in that area much since I stopped playing Public Bar about 2 years ago. At at that point, DuPont was seeming to slow down quite a bit. Decades is a 4 story megaclub that stayed busy, but everyone else seemed to be struggling from what I could tell.

Meanwhile, some of the trendier areas like Shaw and U street tend to have much smaller lounge type places that are doing well. Which is where the place I still work is located.

I'm not sure how much of that trend is playing into ESL closing. ESL lived on being cool. The place didn't even have a sign. You just had to know where the door was and walk up a non-descript staircase. But the music was always way cooler than your average top 40 club. It attracted a customer that didn't want to just hear radio hits. For that reason it was a coveted DJ gig.

I wish I had spent more time at ESL. I always really respected the DJs that played there, normally DJs that are long time DC legends. But most of the time I drive into the city it's because I'm working myself.
