Great idea, poor execution, they are total crap, cancel quick if you can! Mine arrived broken even though the boxes they came in were in perfect condition. The letter V had a crack through the back which also split the LED tape in two. There were screws out of place and other cracks as well. nt them pack right away! They are made out a foam board and will not survive a single gig. I was going to post a review on Youtube since the ones I saw are positive but haven't got around to it. They produce a nice effect though but that is the only good think I can say about them.

Seems like a fair price for the upsell I've shown them to a few brides and may be ordering them I've also had several ask if other word are available

They are already on the way. Hopefully I will have better luck with them! I will have a road case made for them if I feel they are going to last long enough. I'm glad I didn't order that case already!

Wow, not big on taking advice, eh? How much did those things cost? Sorry, I just can't see that being a $300 up-sell. No way, no how.

If no one has specifically asked you for these letters - I can't see them being a big seller.

It seems quite tacky for a wedding... more in line with a Bat Mitzvah. I can get more like $1k for stuff like that but I take custom builds - actually doing the kids name, or some logo. They are a one-time use, and yes - foam core is the primary material. Sometimes custom lazer cut mirrors or plexi, MDF, etc if the prop has to be durable or part of some rigging.

You're better off building custom graphics (something not for sale to everyone) than trying to rent out the same cliche' word over and over. What people really want is for their event to be unique and if they have the budget to do that they won't want left over vocabulary for rent.

Some stuff like "Hollywood" is reusable and historic accuracy is fixed - so it makes sense to build it out of rugged material. But for personal events like weddings there is always some kind of personal twist, a different font, certain color, different spelling, etc. People will pay to have their own custom make. I see a variety of these stock "Love" letters in smaller versions at all of the home stores, and gift shops. I think there are plenty of ways for people to achieve a similar or more tasteful version of this word for under $95. IMHO bigger isn't necessarily going to be the attraction.

Lights are $400 ( Eliminator Decor Love 45" Tall White Exterior Colored Letters with RGB LEDs | IDJNOW ) ... I suppose if you can get $300+ for a rental and they last 2 events, you'd at least break even.

Mr. & Mrs. are a bit more .. and you'd need 2 sets to allow for Mr. and Mr., etc.

Just saw $370 at KPODJ.com with free shipping if someone wants them.
If I wanted it I could get it from them for even less. I get the VIP prices and drive to the showroom. That's where I got my 801p 's from. I forgot to mention Tom and Joe are great guys.

I see no market for this. Looks very cheesy and low class, imo.
If you can't do it yourself, even paying to have a custom gobo or graphic projection made, would still cost less than the letters, look better imo, and will also have the added bonus of flexible positioning within the room.

I could see a small one maybe by the wishing well or in front of or on top of the wedding cake, but not four or five feet high.

Hey, if you see a value in them...go for it, and I wish you luck on the upsells.
I agree with TJ, a gobo doesn't take up floor space and requires less maintenance and care.
Most places I play have limited room for DJ, cake, gift table, etc...
so these would not be a popular upsell for my clients.

For what these cost you should be able to sell them at a premium and recoupe your costs in a couple of gigs while they are the new hot thing I could see getting 5-10 upsells on this in the first year in the 200 -250 range since they are relatively cheap it seems profitable I have two that will book it right now that will pay for my acquisition costs anything else is profit

They will NEVER last for 5 to 10 up-sells, you'll be lucky to get one use out of them. The first time someone bumps into one and knocks it down, it will most likely be toast.

Since when did our cost ever have any bearing on how much a client values anything we provide?
Only when "value" doesn't translate to $$.

I do take advice, all the time. By the time you gave me your experience they had already shipped. All I can do is inspect them on delivery and accept them if they are undamaged. If I feel they aren't worth the price I can always send them back.

I paid under $400 including shipping. If I get 2-3 sales out of them I made my money back and then some so I'll be happy enough. Obviously I'd want them to go out more than that. I understand your concerns about durability and that is definitely a concern.

While brides themselves have not asked for them specifically I don't know that they know it's an option. I did a little market research before deciding to purchase these. A few designers in the area I spoke with said they think they could sell them as well, so I am working out details with them to be able to resell for me. These designers do have the smaller marquee style LOVE letters that they rent out for between $125-200 so that's what I am basing my pricing on.

If these do prove popular and clients ask for other words I will look into having more durable custom letters made. I'm not afraid of spending money if the return will be good. Consider these letters a test.

I agree they could look tacky if done poorly. If done correctly they could look great. It won't be for everyone, for sure. Once they get here, and if I determine they are durable enough, I'm going to see if it is feasible to make them DMX controllable. That will help them blend in to many more decors.

I do monograms as well, and they are very popular. I don't plan to stop selling those.

I appreciate everyone's input. I'll be honest that it surprised me so many think it looks tacky. Maybe my market is just tacky and that's what brides want here? Maybe everyone I spoke with in the area before buying them was off the mark on what local brides want? Time will tell.
