SoundSwitch released version 2.2 recently. It's got a WILDLY improved autoscript algorithm. I don't think it added much in terms of capability, but it makes it much easier to a great looking light show.

I was bored and wanted to play with the new tech, so I set a lighting rig up in my garage today and came up with this:

The fog geysers CAN be programmed into SoundSwitch but I triggered them manually for the time being. I get to use them so infrequently that I don't want to put a bunch of time into the perfect triggers and never get to use them. The geyser remote is super easy anyway.

In any case, I hope you guys enjoy what I spent my day on!

I guess I should clarify - I started with autoscript and then re-did the intro to make it more dramatic. Only a couple other changes to what the software originally did.

Hey Ross,
I just did the update a few days ago. I couldn't really see where they have specific how-to videos and tutorials regarding the updated features they added. Maybe I just missed it somewhere. Also,

1. When you use auto loops, do you categorize your auto loops by bpm or genre etc and physically click on that genre of auto loops when you're playing a slow song for example or hip hop etc? Or do you just let them run?

2. Do you auto script quite a bit? It seems like with this update that's the primary focus as if a lot of folks do (I haven't yet...just trying to become super familiar with auto loop). It seemed, though, that prior to this update a lot of people were crying out for more control over the static looks...To control each light's color...to be able to transition smoothly in and out of static looks so that a wedding dj doesn't have to have a hard snap out of static look into the First Dance auto script. Was that part of this update as well??

You can categorize autoloops if you want, but you don't really need to. SoundSwitch adjusts the bpm to match whatever you are playing, so you don't need fast ones versus slow ones. I just try to have enough variety that I'm not using the same color palettes and movements all night.

Most of the 2.2 updates are in autoscripting. If you autoscript a track now, you'll see an option for "Advanced" where you can set all sorts of cool customization parameters. I'm still just digging in, but there is a lot there.

After I run the autoscript, I'll look a the song and see if it's doing anything I want to change. Sometimes its too "flashy" in terms of the pulses being overwhelming so I might smooth it out.

I haven't looked at the static looks section yet to see if there are changes. But you are absolutely right that people are asking for that. It's still very aggressive going from one look to another.

As I've been taking the time to learn it (and I haven't added movers or anything like that etc), I have to say overall I really like SS. They do work hard at making the product better and fine tune it. I hear they will even have a visualizer later this year. So do you just pick away at auto scripting certain songs as you have time, then? With having so many songs I have to believe you don't make it a priority to auto script a vast majority of them (or maybe you do!)?

That's why I was a little surprised that they put a ton of energy into updating the auto scripting. In one sense, it's great that they did that if you want to put more time into programming every song individually but it seems that the auto loops are the crown jewel of the software making a things easy to have a great show. There's a lot of software out there that require you to program each song to have a great light show but it's software like mydmxgo and SS's autoloops that have made that a quicker/easier reality by relying on the software to create the cool light show for you.

You can batch autoscript big chunks of songs. So if you want to do a big block of them in one of your dance crates, you can. That's part of why this update was so big.

Also it is detecting song sections like choruses, breakdowns, drops, to make the autoscript more effective and realistic to what a lighting designer might do.

I'm letting it rip through this hip hop crate right now. I can then tweak each song if I want.. but I don't have to.

Ohhhhhh, okay, now I get why this update is so beneficial. Wow...nice!

However, the thing I'm finding is that if you do big blocks, all of the coloring of the shows is the same. So I'm going back in and re-doing sections with different color palettes.

I don't know how many SoundSwitch users we have... but would it be helpful to do a virtual working session? I'm happy to show how I run through stuff live and troubleshoot anybody's issues if there is demand to do so.
