They join the 615, which has been out a little .. priced at $399 for the 10, $449 for the 12 and $499 for the 15.

Interested to see how they sound. They have Bluetooth connections for phone/tablet apps to set eqs and such.

Certainly better looking than earlier EONs.

My first powered speakers were the G2s. War horses. They lost me with the first generation of 500s. They were awful. Never again.

JBL finally comes out with a nice looking Eon. Reports of the last generation were that they lacked power but sounded smooth. I'm interested in how these will compete with other powered speakers currently on the market. Will any DJs even try them out after their past failures?

The EV ZLX are as well, but if you care for them (they're not as robust as some others) .. they actually sound pretty darn good. These appear to be at a similar price point.

I'm guessing that would be the ZX series with the ELX coating?

No .. it's EV's plastic cased box slotted just below the ELX, though on a bunch of accounts actually sound better (IMO). I think it's due to an updated DSP.

The Zx are a different line.

I know, I have the ZX1's. You said ZLX. Without looking it up, I took the ZX line and the ELX line (ZX + ELX = ZLX?)

Understood though - I'll have to check them out.

I love JBL, but every DJ within 200 miles seems to have two dinky Eons on sticks and it just makes me shake my head. I've long ago sworn to never own them. Speakers aren't meant to be thin, resonant plastic.

They definitely have their place, like anything, but I've got such a distaste for them because of the people that have them around here.

And yes, I realize this is a personally motivated hate; I'm not saying they're actually that bad, for some situations.

Not every plastic speaker is thin .. some are pretty damn heavy.

Unfortunately, JBL was missing from the DJ Expo, so I did not get a chance to see/hear the new ones.

Personally, I'll stay with a nice well built wooden cabinet. I'll admit some of the plastic cabs sound very good there's something about the sound that I don't like that much.

When I was in the QSC demo room at the Expo, I had them play a cut both on the K12 (plastic cab) and the KW122 (wood cab, slightly different horn geometry) and go back and forth. I will say the KW122 sounded much better, but it's tough to determine if it was the cabinet, the drivers or the amp/DSP .. all contribute.

The RCF HD32A is a plastic cab speaker, but one of the best sounding ones out there, so it is possible to do it .. assuming the engineering is there.

True, but at a bit more than $1,000.00, it's almost double the price of a K12.

They had it on the floor for $920 and I bet I could have gotten it close to $875 .. but still more than the K12, but less than the KW122 or the ETX12.

They actually had them priced at $889 each when I got there (around 3pm on Tue.) but by 5pm they had changed them to $920 .. I guess someone finally figured they could bargain down, but not up.
