Just sayin' HI! New guy on the forum, but bringing over 25 yrs experience with me... Every time I say I'm quitting the DJ/live sound gig for good, someone always manages to drag me back into it. I still DJ part-time, but have others working for me who do it full-time--I do a lot of live sound myself, and am the resident gearhead who provides and maintains all of the equipment.
I DO NOT live in "mamby-pamby land" with ultra-lightweight powered speakers the size of home theater cubes and a processor rack that fits in a gym bag. I use REAL equipment which means racks of amps and processors, and speaker cabinets that look and sound like real pro-audio speakers. Most of my rigs are equally suitable for hooking up a laptop or plugging in a live band--don't need the cargo van for CDs and vinyl (unless you want a vintage gig), but you still do for the equipment.
Some favorite brands--Peavey, EV, EAW, CV, Mackie, dbx, Alesis, BBE, Carver, Crown, Monster Power, Live Wire, Shure...
